There was a promo on kindle basic 10th gen only weeks back, 10% off plus 10% CB on citicard. effective cost was around 6.5k. should have opted for that.
Also, reading pdf on kindle is not very easy. Even reading graphics is difficult. For all other format, you need to convert to AWS3 format using calibre and then sideload.
I’m familiar with calibre since my sister used to own a kindle in the past and yeah there was a discount but amazon cancelled the order bec of red area declaration of my pin code
By the time restrictions were lifted it was oos and then they removed the code 😔
@panchabhut
Its available at 7.5k @LIMBO but i was skeptical about the refurb since 10th gen is fine for reading text. Whats the return policy on refurb products and who to contact in case of warranty redemption.¿¿
For reading purposes there’s no difference between 7th gen. and 10th gen. Both have the same 300 PPI e-ink Carta display. You get 10 days return period as usual. AFAICT you need to contact Amazon for warranty purposes. It seems to be similar procedure for both refurb and new ones.
P.S. Right now font support for Indic languages is very limited. And make sure you understand the pros and cons of an e-ink display vs LCD. Also software jailbreaking isn’t possible as of now as Indian versions ship with updated firmware which can’t be downgraded. So no KOReader for ePUBs etc.
I keep mine on Airplane mode all the time in the (admittedly faint) hope that a workaround can be discovered in the future. Otherwise updates happen automatically.
I lower it down when reading and the pro that i use also has ambient colour adjustment (they call it truetone i guess) but still i couldnt read much on it due to lacklustre battery on tablets and plus the constant urge to check social media on bigger screens. I always end up browsing the youtube when using those devices. This however cannot be attributed to the device but yeah having a dedicated thing would help me i guess read more and give myself more time to just absorb the book. Placed an order for refurb 10th gen kindle. Since they have an option to return it. Ill try it out for a week. @LIMBO . Thanks for the vital infos once again.
Also, Whats the difference between mobi and azw3 format ? is the latter better ? i tried looking them up but it seems like there is an information blackout on the subject. Also, would love to know about how to remoce drm from kindle bought books
MOBI has been deprecated long ago. AZW3 has several extra features. Particularly for Kindles it’s by far the better choice. https://www.kboards.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=228...;
For reading comfort and battery life there’s no comparison at all. 70+ hours SoT and 1% idle drain/day! OLED is better than LCD but pales in comparison to e-ink.
For removing DRM there’s a Calibre plugin by Apprentice Alf.
id recommend S6 lite over S5e in that regard. I have both Ipad Pro 10.5 and S6 but i prefer ipad in every regard since my primary purpose is note taking and nothing beats the 4:3 aspect ratio when it comes to reading and media consumption. Extra space accommodates the subtitles without intruding into the movie space also opening apps side by side with newer ios 13 is a breeze. i dont like apple much but i’m a fan of ipad. i dont think anything comes close to it although S7 is a pretty good device in itself. Tabs have been selling quick since the lockdown but ive seen a few pieces come and go on flipkart often. add the tabs you’re wanting to purchase in the wish list or use some plugin so that it notifies you as soon as the stock is available bec its gone in a matter of minutes. @mas143forever
So, the iPad costs lesser than both S5e and S6. And at 25.5k, much lesser. That makes it a no brainer choice then. Even I dont like iOS much, but have to say that nothing beats iPad for a long term use, specially at this price.
@panchabhut yeah hopefully there are no problems with refurbished since it’ll be my first time using a refurb product
never used a refurbished product. no personal experience.
Samsung S6 lite comes with an S pen while apple pencil shall cost you another 8k so Samsung is a relatively cheaper package but I’d still recommend iPad. Go for it, by all means , you won’t be disappointed @mas143forever
kindle is only good for reading fiction ..not tech ebooks with formulae, diagrams etc

@MrCritic
there you go. The black one now is OOS but the white one is available
thats great @mas143forever congratulations on the new tablet
So how did it go?
How is the refurbished Kindle working out? I'm planning to buy the Kindle basic 6" refurbished one (10th gen).
Also, any tips for the beginners?
Thanks.
Refurbished Kindle Paperwhite 7th gen. costs 5.5k less than the 10th gen. And it comes with 1 year warranty as well. So unless the extra 4GB storage or the Dark theme is a must the former seems to be the better value. Mine was a refurb and working flawlessly since 9 months. It was practically brand new! Tested the battery backup extensively and still good for 70+ hour SoT in Airplane mode with frontlight at minimum.
Also refurb Voyage at 11k.
