By launching this amazon will destroy all local markets….
Haven’t they already done that? What do you think, @DealSeeker ?
Nah, this is indeed a big development, the repercussions of which will be debated for a long time and will only be noticed/felt after about a year. The same thing happened in the US.To give you a personal example, I used to skip on buying certain household/grocery items from Amazon purely because of the shipping costs involved, even if the items were being sold at below market price. I used to instead order them from BigBasket. Now I will likely use Amazon to buy even those items, like I did when they offered free shipping for about the first 2-years of launching in India. Keep in mind that this was before Amazon was a household name and delivered to even villages via IndiaPost. With the superb inventory they have now and the goodwill they have created (by superb customer service and huge TV ads), Prime in India would indeed be a game changer.
The real change here is that now they will become a one-stop shop for everything and anything you need. This is how they dominated the US market and changed it forever. But this is India. So brace yourself for some government regulation or new taxation announcement as a result of the uproar from the local merchants.
In short, they will destroy all local players.

They will likely offer rates lower than 499 from time to time to get more people to join the program. In the US, they even offered repeat trials after a few months when I didn’t pay the subscription fees at the end of the free-trial.

only problem will be when they raise the rate to 999, which is a bit on the higher side atleast for me
I agree. At 999, they won’t get much traction. They have to keep it priced around 499 or lower if they are serious about getting as many customers as they can under the Prime membership. CC @Magus

It definitely would not be expensive at 999, if amazon prime video is part of it, killing netflix on pricing

Yeah I know that except I tried a few of Mumbai pin codes yesterday & it worked, they’ve since updated the landing page & delivery area i.e. further details have been added.

Oh, great! I still see only Hyderabad in the details, but your finding that it is also showing items in Mumbai is good to know. Can’t wait for it to launch in Bangalore! #GoGreen #LowerPackagingWaste
By the way, here is a direct link to the Amazon Pantry page which still shows availability only in Hyderabad: https://www.amazon.in/gp/pantry/info/ref=s9_acs...
Bye bye flipkart. Now I’m lack of reasons to shop from you.
