So subscribing to Prime has a penalty?

Everyone is going mad over this Prime thing. I am pretty sure Prime will have various restrictions, like the one mentioned above.

Contacted them on Phone, now they are saying technical problem because of Prime launch. Wait 24 hrs.

My 2 cents, at this price, it is worth it. My friend is having US amazon prime membership for 100$ a year. You also get free access to prime videos. In India they will also launch prime video services shortly. Once that happens then it will be a good deal. Also the per month cost is lower than 50 Rs per month. Can’t get better than this currently.

IF they increase the price to 100 Dollars do you think anyone will buy this membetship in INDIA?

No, but we don’t get paid in dollars over here, do we?
In proportionate terms I’d say 100$ would equate to 1K rupees, PPP & all that, so at just 499/- it is indeed a steal https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

I don’t think so many ppl will be knowing about this offer. So they won’t discontinue the offer for at least 2 weeks. They should have mentioned the expiry date of this offer.

No one knows how long they would keep this on. Maybe they are rolling the same out initially for some % of users and then would change the offer.

I dunno
In US, for prime trial we will be charged 99$ upfront and refund will be processed once we cancel it
But here amazon isnt charging anything. My guess is once they reach certain prime subscription count, they going to halt new signups and price will get changed to new subscriptions or prime trial
Flipkart First is dead already, Even if amazon prices prime at 1k every one will be happy to cancel their FF subscription for this

What do you think, @DealSeeker ?

Nah, this is indeed a big development, the repercussions of which will be debated for a long time and will only be noticed/felt after about a year. The same thing happened in the US.

To give you a personal example, I used to skip on buying certain household/grocery items from Amazon purely because of the shipping costs involved, even if the items were being sold at below market price. I used to instead order them from BigBasket. Now I will likely use Amazon to buy even those items, like I did when they offered free shipping for about the first 2-years of launching in India. Keep in mind that this was before Amazon was a household name and delivered to even villages via IndiaPost. With the superb inventory they have now and the goodwill they have created (by superb customer service and huge TV ads), Prime in India would indeed be a game changer.

The real change here is that now they will become a one-stop shop for everything and anything you need. This is how they dominated the US market and changed it forever. But this is India. So brace yourself for some government regulation or new taxation announcement as a result of the uproar from the local merchants. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif

Lol .. They will again find a loop hole .. Its always there in our system .. They will partner again with some local giant ..

i hv a doubt , after being king amazon will give much discount as usual?

@Idriish

After consolidation of the online market it would come down to the convenience of home delivery vs going to an offline store. Deals would still exist but not deep discounts and not very often. Even then you still would have a choice not to buy from amazon if it costs you more.

On a different note prime service in US is not bought only for the free shipping but also for the additional services being offered. I have personally seen friends/relatives opting for other websites/stores to buy their day to day needs and still have prime for the non-shipping services they offer. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif
