If you're looking for a laptop under Rs 25k, this is the best deal IMO, and I came across it after a ton of research. Its a German made Fujitsu laptop with 15.6" matte screen (which I prefer and was actively looking for), 8 GB RAM and 500 GB HDD. Processor is 4th Gen Core i3. In my experience, unless you're playing games (for which you would need a dedicated graphics card anyway), its preferable to have more RAM than going for a more powerful processor. It also has a huge battery backup, and indeed is praised for it. Cons are as far as I can find related to availability of parts, so when warranty expires getting the parts might be tough. Also check to see if you have a Toshiba service centre nearby, it might be an issue. Where to buy: +Ebay+ starts selling from Rs 22,190 http://www.ebay.in/itm/FUJITSU-AH514-LAPTOP-COR...? Other sellers: http://www.ebay.in/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sa... You can use these coupons to get Rs 1500 off PAYTMEBAY8 (you have to pay with Paytm wallet) MOBIEBAY08 (using Mobikwik wallet) 15ARTELMNY (paying with Airtel money) ICICI, AXIS, HDFC etc banks have their own cashbacks upto Rs 1500. You can use Axis credit card to pay in EMI with Rs 2000 discount. WLCOMEAPR6 gives a little less than Rs 1500 off. Paytm sells it for Rs 21009 effectively (after cashback). https://paytm.com/shop/p/fujitsu-lifebook-a514-... Shopclues has it at under Rs 22k, Snapdeal over Rs 22k. +Flipkart+ http://www.flipkart.com/fujitsu-lifebook-series... +Amazon+ http://www.amazon.in/Fujitsu-Lifebook-A514-I3-4... Reviews http://www.notebookcheck.net/Fujitsu-LifeBook-A... (different config) http://www.nagekar.com/2015/11/Fujitsu-Lifebook... If you have any questions regarding buying choices feel free to ask. I may be able to advise you on any other laptop/configuration.

Damm, maybe I should’ve bought this instead when I had a good coupon (for Rs 21.3k).

For anyone interested in the difference between 4th and 5th gen, its the manufacturing process (the transistors are smaller), but the architecture is the same. However, the 5th gen is higher clocked, AND has considerably better graphics. Is it worth the current difference in prices? I will probably be happy to pay an extra Rs 2k for that.

There is one issue with this lappy & which is substantial to point out as I haven’t experienced the same in other brands. The power adapter provided by Fujitsu is of 2 barrel pin & due to which the associated power cord consists of only 2 pin plug. The important earthing pin is missing & due to this very fact there is grounding current issues with the lappy whenever the charger is connected. You can experience the tingling sensation on your sensitive body parts whenever you come in contact with the metallic components of this notebook. You can also confirm it by verifying it with an Ampere Line Tester.
And I have confirmed the same with Fujitsu that they only manufacture 2 pin power adapters.

Its something I overlooked, but in hindsight expected for a German made product (German sockets have the grounding pin in reverse). In fact, my current laptop has a German adapter (I had changed it when I went abroad, rather than getting a universal plug).

I haven’t had a problem till date, but then I may just have been lucky to have been using plug points with good earthing. Probably this is something which should be checked before buying.

I raised this issue to their support team & demanded the 3 pin power adapter compliant with Indian standards but that wasn’t of much avail as they sent me the same power adapter imported from Germany within a week issue was raised.Later when I pointed out about their lack of understanding in this regard, their helpless manager reverted me & humbly advised me to arrange myself a 3rd party 3 pin power adapter if I want as Fujitsu only manufactures 2 pin adapters which are made in Germany. He also assured me that this grounding current issue is within permissible limits & innocuous to any components of this Fujitsu laptop.

To all the owners of this laptop.

I want to purchase it for someone, whose requirement is having multiple office applications open (Outlook/Word/Excel) and chrome with multiple tabs. Can the i3 processor handle that? I read couple of reivews, only thing negative they had to point was bad performance by the display. Is the display bright enough?

Go for it.It’s one hell of a beast with tremendous configuration in this price range. It’ll surely serve your purpose without any doubt. As far as display is concerned it comes with additional matte Anti-glare display which is soothing for eyes.Of course the display performance decreases in bright sunlight but that bounds to happen & not much of an issue for many of ’em.

Yes, it will.

Btw, this is something I want to point out. Chrome/Office etc require a lot of RAM, and they will run happily on any old processor. The bottleneck is the RAM when opening multiple programs at once (and it delegates to the Hard disk paging memory which is very slow).

If you want to load these programs faster, use an SSD. Again, processor has little impact.

As such it is surprising when you see high config laptops almost Rs 40k with 4GB RAM – it makes no sense. You need a powerful processor for heavy duty applications like encoding, games etc – not for day to day stuff.

As for display, yeah, I have read reviews that it is not very good (but suppposedly at par with the budget laptops). My dream laptop would be one with a decent processor, but lots of RAM, SSD and Full HD IPS display https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif (maybe I will start my own company https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif) You will be surprised how much a difference SSD and more RAM makes rather than a better processor.

I bought fujitsu A544 laptop with i5 4th gen/4GB/500 GB from ebay last year. I was impressed with the build quality and the price point (around 28k after coupons that time). My sister uses it for ANSYS modeling etc.

I was looking forward to buy the same model last month but i5 model is not available in any online stores so bought A514. Happy with the purchase again.

3 USB ports are something that put the other models in similar price range to shame.

This (All fujitsu laptops I believe) runs on UEFI boot system, so it took me some time initially to install windows.

I was unable to boot from usb while i tried to install ubuntu over windows 10 (Will retry with usb 3.0 option off as suggested in this thread). Any comments on installing ubuntu in UEFI over win 10 shall be of great help.

NB: The heat exhaust on the side may make one feel the laptop is overheating, but it never made any problem to its normal functioning in both A544 and 514.

This one is even better. But wont make a difference if its just browsing and stuff. It may make a slight difference in Business work as it has some Office advantage.
But the 514 has some advnatages too

Here is a comparison. What is strange is the comparison says both come with 4GB wonder how these sellers are giving 8GB.

I bought this laptop before 6-7 months back and the only disadvantage was the sound quality. The loudspeaker will give you minimal sound and you can cannot compare the sound quality with other laptops. Moreover Here comes the twist, my laptop screen was affected during Chennai Rain and I very well know that it would not cover under warranty, I logged a complaint, engineer came, checked and asked the quotation from Fujitsu to change the LCD. To my surprise the LCD cost was 18000+. You need to run behind them after sales service and the quote for the parts is always costly. I changed the LCD screen in the local market for 3200 and it was working properly, however again hinges started giving me trouble. Overall the laptop is for people who don’t care after sales service and note dimers, the make is of average quality.

Create a bootable Pendrive and install windows from it.

yours is a completely different case. After flood hitting laptop it’s a different case altogether.other laptops would have caused troubles as well. But the quotation paart of Rs 18000 is not believable.I still doubt there is something wrong. It cannot be 18000.others should confirm if they had similar experience.

screen price for most non touch laptops 15 inch size varies from 5000-9000 depending on quality in the market. Definitely not 18k..and screen price has nothing to do with brand as multiple laptops use the same screen. This is coming from a person who has access to lot of screens.

Do you need proof? Tell me your email ID, I’ll forward you the mail chain of Fujitsu manager conversation from his official email ID. You can infact contact in his email ID with my ticket details and check it. Sorry to say it’s not 18000+ it’s 20800 Rs for the cost of LCD panel. Moreover if flood affects do you mean to say hinges will broke after 4 months. Common you must be kidding.

yes LCD Panel is quotes Rs 20000 lol.But one thing after sales matters till warranty else we can always go for cheaper replacement parts available in local market.Though they are really funny in 20000 LCD price and represents how irresponsible they are but still for me if they are able to repair at least in warranty period it’s fine for me.

You forgot that once you change it to cheap local parts, your warranty is void. Also fujitsu tries to get money for replacement of parts saying some or the other. Who wants a laptop who cannot afford to provide proper after sales service? I recommend dell in this matter since the professionalism and after sales service is awesome. Instead of buying this utter waste laptop, we can invest some 1-2 k bugs & buy good ones.

I am saying using local parts in case warranty has already been void or over.why one will use local parts when it’s still in warranty.so after sales till warranty matters more. After warranty I think local parts will always come cheaper in any brand laptop.Obviously 20000 is altogether a different scenario .we will not have such difference in any case.opinions differ person to person. But please answer one question which window you installed in lifebook A555?and was DVD and usb 3.0 working with that? Thanks
