I did threaten them with legal consequence and even thew a few Consumer protection act sections at them to no avail. They were adamant. In fact, the supervisor accepted that the miss was from his(Amazon’s) end however he still said all we can do is to give you 500 rupees as compensation. I’m sure if i take them to consumer court, this is a very easy case to win but the problem is, Amazon falls under Bangalore jurisdiction and i cannot file consumer case against them from Delhi. Perhaps the supervisor knew that i cannot proceed legally against them from Delhi.
I guess the last option is to write to Jeff Bezos. I would want to keep that as a last option though.
If I were you I would have accepted 500 compensation as I don’t have the time nor the efforts needed to follow up the case in court. ATM, your best bet was to talk to the floor manager and see if that works, otherwise to threaten them with legal consequences but both did not work. If you have contacts in Banglore, time and your are determined to teach them a lesson, you may proceed with the legal suit. The thing is its India that’s why they are doing as they wish. If it was US, the situation would have been entirely different.
Don’t have any idea whether contacting Jeff Bezos will be of any good.
In fact, you would be surprised to know that it is much cheaper and easier to win consumer case in Indian than U.S. In US, one needs to pay around 50$ just to file a case in small claims court. At least consumer courts in India doesn’t charge a dime to file cases and most often than not, cases gets settled outside the court itself.
I will make another phone call to Amazon today and see if i get a sensible supervisor.

I was not aware that you have to shell out such an amount to just file a case in US and I totally agree with the bolded statement above.
Its best to call them again and hope that a sensible person is at the other end. Meanwhile, calling some witful dimers.

Filing cases in consumer court starts from 0 rupees. At the most you will pay 100 rupees for cases for goods that are valued below 1 lac rupees.
If you cannot be positive then at least be quiet

Cheaper? Perhaps. But easier? How?

That comment was specifically in reference to Consumer courts in India. If you go through the consumer court judgements, most of the cases are tilted in favor of consumers. My Dad works for an NGO and their legal team has filed a bunch of cases against some companies such as Qatar airways, National insurance etc for deficiency in service. They won all the cases and decent compensation were awarded in all the cases.

Good to hear that. But still how do you say it’s easier? An individual does not have the same resources as an organization.

Their legal team only has 2 individuals who also take care off multiple other roles in the organization and they are not even qualified lawyers. The only resources that was spent towards the case was “Filling fees” . Unlike the regular courts, Consumer courts judgement are typically settled in under a year.

what
Finally got the issue sorted out. Spoke to an extremely nice rep from Amazon escalation department who explained why order was cancelled. Unfortunately the address i placed the order was beyond Amazon’s courier services reach for large appliances. Eventually Amazon admitted their mistake and credited 1,000rs as compensation for the inconvenience caused. I just wish every Amazon rep was as helpful as the guy i spoke to today.
The washing machine got delivered today.

Congrats.
Tips:
Installation Charges: 200 [ OPTIONAL ] (you can save if you wish)
Extra inlet pipe cost: 600 [2 FT]
As per reviews and talks estimated life of washing machine is + or – 4 Years.
It has timer which is not very useful.
Spares are tough to find in market.
Any one can add up.

Thanks for reply buddy! There is some issue this week with washing machine.
Called up their Contact and gave a complaint. After four days a Person aged 30-35 showed up!
Very Arrogant and asked me show the bill of amazon before anything else! He argued that a machine bought for 7499 will not have warranty and asked me to pay for the visit!! Well i did not pay and asked to leave and have to register a complaint on Onida and also a copy to amazon. He made a couple of calls and talked some blah, blah!! Now thinking did we make a wrong Choice in buying this! As of now the machine is working fine.
You can get another 15% discount on paying through Citi bank Cards on Amazon App.
Any one got?
