In my experience SBI doesn’t offer Debit Card at the time of account opening.

You couldn’t be more wrong now. SBI from atleast last 10 years is giving non-personalized debit cards on account opening. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_cool.gif

not exactly
i remember opening one sbi account in chennai (2013)
I got dc via post (personalized)
Last year opened another sbi account for loan, got non-personalized card instantly

For my personal savings account opened much before 2013, I got non-personalized Maestro debit card on the spot. CC @GoogleCA @gambits @rajrocks

I received personalised Maestro card for account opened in September 2015 (Mumbai)

PS: Personalised means holder’s name printed on it, right?

Non personalized welcome kits are given by most banks but by select branches which have it available. These just need activation & Linking to customer account. Personalized wk with cb, DC is processed by cpc.
AFAIK one needs to specifically mention if he wants rupay cards. At the time of my iob (Indian overseas bank) dc renewal I categorically asked for rupay card but they gave visa only & told system does not allow now, whenever possible will intimate. It’s been long long time I am awaiting call from branch.
I guess now account opening forms have choices for type of cards.
Bandhan bank issues rupay card for low amb accounts & I got one.

No, form did not have option for Rupay cards…I forcefully asked for it.. They tried a lot to convince me for Visa and MasterCard….After 10 mins of light banter, I opened my wallet to them and told them to chk and see how many Visa and MasterCard I have….Now tell me whr is Rupay…I need it for my collection.. It’s pathetic, dnt know why the national banks dnt want to issue them..

I wished they issue it as dual so that we don’t loose out on visa benefits but that’s not possible.
So when iob denied I went for Bandhan, dint want to touch sbi visa (which I got converted from maestro). Even hdfc issues rupay cards.
It’s matter of time, international acceptability for these cards, credit cards all is in fray & there will be time when rupay will compete visa / Mc.
All banks save a lot if migrate to rupay, though they can’t switch fully.
My last conversation with visa guy told me there is no loss of business for visa as whatever growth rupay, amex etc have achieved that is due to high penetration & growth in segment. So effectively they retained market share & even gained.

When I opened account at SBI they issued cards like this,
Monday – VISA
Tuesday – MasterCard
Wednesday – RuPay
Thursday – VISA
Friday – MasterCard
Saturday – RuPay

-

I had explicitly asked them to issue me a VISA card and I shouldn’t get RuPay card under any circumstances.

After 2 weeks, I received MasterCard.

PS: Purpose of not getting RuPay was because then FreeCharge didn’t accept that card. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

As of now, that branch issues Visa OR MasterCard only, no RuPay card. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

You didn’t get the emoticon did you? Actually they had not included the bank cards in the previous sales but some of our great dimers started asking the CC about it and they decided to add bank cards to the exclusion list in the last sale. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

Edit- But they again with the current high prices on gold coins not a worthy risk as amazon never failed to include gold coins previously. Maybe they missed to include it in this sale

I am torn by indecision when it comes to choosing between Redmi 3s and Samsung Galaxy On5 Pro. The former is clearly superior specs wise but the latter has the edge when it comes to aftersales service. For instance Samsung has a huge service center within walking distance of my home whereas in case of Xiaomi I will have to travel all the way to Bangalore! This is meant for my non-tech savvy grandfather. Both models are well equipped when it comes to the minimum requirements like VoLTE? , requisite LTE bands and minimum RAM and storage necessary. 5" or smaller device is a must which really limits the options. With SBI cashback On5 Pro will be Rs 6.8k so not much of a difference pricewise between the two either.

NO CBs for VCC. They can identify it through the card series.

You create SBI VCC through net banking right? If there is another way of doing it I am not sure about it. Through net banking the type of debit card you hold shouldn’t matter I guess.

Net banking is not activated yet. So I don’t know how it actually works. Just wanted to clarify because I have MasterCard now and planning to replace it with a Rupay card.

BTW, do SBI Credit Cards also allow you to create VCC?

SBI VCC is generated through netbanking (at least that’s the only way I know of). You can see it once your NB gets activated. I have no idea about SBI credit cards, never had one.
