Automatic scooter recommendation

Hi guys,

I’m working in Bangalore currently and the traffic here is horrendous. Although my workplace is just 2.5 kms away from home, it takes 30-40 mins to reach office in company provided cab. Some of my colleagues have switched to gearless scooters for their versatile nature plus it is easier to use a scooter for errands instead of taking my car out. I have ridden many motorcycle’s in the past but never tried a scooter before. I would like to know how difficult it is for a person who is used to riding geared motorcycle to adjust to a gear less scooter.

I would appreciate if you guys could recommend a scooter.Would prefer a scooter that suits tall and well built guy( 6 feet ,90 kgs)

Thanks

sorry no direct idea about these, but back in the day Kinetic (Honda) used to be the ones that were the most easily maintained and otherwise economical.
not sure about seeing 6feet tall people riding it, but it surely was driven by a lot of people who might have been 90 kilos or above.
Pity, it was seen as a girl’s vehicle, back in the 1990s at-least
and
Pity II, i tdon’t think it is made by the Firodias anymore. but Kinetic Motors is doing really good under Sulajja (Firodia) Motwani and still make good two-wheelers suited for Indian conditions.

is Reva (car) not small enough to get past snarls ?(obviously i know its not as small as a scooter, but you get the point).

I’ve seen some acquaintances ride TVS WEGO and heard from people in closer circle suggest it as a comfortable ride from their personal experience.

no idea whether it is a value for money vehicle/ pricing is right.. because all i recollect is its heavy duty marketing exercise with those ‘..it has got body balance..’ advertisements.

TVS provide a very robust service network though, especially where you’d intend to use it. THAT is a big plus.

Riding the Harley in Bangalore traffic is no fun. Main idea of buying the scooter is to reduce the commute time. Another advantage is the storage on the scooter, it is pain to carry grocery bags on a motorcycle.

I’m not really looking at an electric car at this point in time.

of-course !
i ought not to have made you clarify it. i suppose offering from Kinetic or TVS ought to be good.

sorry, facing another one of those weird 60-90 minutes power outages and snapped it to the in-house back-up but need to go off-line anyway. am fine bhai, thanks.

Bengaluru is being blessed by lots of free samples ¿ by the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, is it.

Go Blindly with Activa 125cc
My personal experience, low maintenance fuel efficient automatic two wheeler plus enough storage space.
PS having 5 Activa in my Family.

@@spock@@ it was not economical to run as far as i remember. if that’s what you mean. it was a two stroke motor, mileage was in thirties when riding single. Ground clearance was pretty bad. It used to hit every hump, you had to use it like a low gc car, slowly over road humps.

Activa 125 cc with front disc brake or choose bicycle with electric motor, as 2.5 km is not a big distance, as my cycling distance is 11 km daily https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Bicycle is not an option since there is no dedicated lane for cycling towards my office https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif . Moreover, there is no shower in the office as well.

Only activa is the best. Never think about others. If u want to clarify then go to any friend having activa 2 year old. And take drive. Then u realize why only activa. After 2 years all other option will be in very bad condition. So only activa is best

I am also 6 feet tall and have more than 90kg weight, using suzuki swish 125 since more than 4 years(bought on 23/06/2012). Nothing more to say.

See my posts below:

Comparision of specs I just made for you.(data is from respected manufacturer’s website) smile

Not added Tyre sizes, brake type etc because it is more or less same. You can compare it here or any other sites like it.

Forgot to write, Suzuki scooters comers with central locking system which is more safer and very convenient for using under seat storage. One do not need to bend every time to open it. As per my experience with other scooters which have traditional system, finding keyhole in night is very tough task.

@cybertechie The three choices i would provide to you are

1. TVS Jupiter 110cc
2. Suzuki Access 125cc
3. Honda Activa 125cc

My brother purchased TVS Jupiter few months back & is quite happy with it. I too am a bike rider just like you & had never ridden a scooter. But after driving for 2-3 days, i felt it to be much easier to drive, less stress on the mind & is much suited for the city traffic. Everything is fine about the vehicle, It is zippy & gives a good mileage. I too have driven it around a lot and with already more than 5000 kms on the odometer, i haven’t faced any issues. Done necessary service as mentioned in manual & felt that maintenance is cheaper compared to Activa.

My cousin has a Activa(110cc) & i have driven it too. Driving Activa seems to be a little better compared to Jupiter, though it doesn’t make much of a difference in City Traffic. I can vouch for the older Activa’s rather than new ones. They haven’t made any significant changes & just kept it the same with very minor changes. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” seems to be Honda’s thinking. Maintenace is a little bit costlier.

I have driven around my friend’s Access & i liked it a little bit more than Activa (My personal opinion, some might say differently). It’s also quite fast and also has a bigger fuel tank(6 ltr) compared to Activa(5.3ltr) & Jupiter(5 ltr). Though i didn’t like the new design of Access (Retro design like Yamaha Fascino), it’s not bad & you might have a look at it before deciding.

Take a test drive of all the vehicles before deciding which to buy. In terms of maintenance & vehicle on road cost, TVS Jupiter is the cheapest whereas Activa & Access cost almost the same with just a few 100rs difference. Now it’s your call to decide the vehicle. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

PS – Do you stay around Whitefield or Electronic City? I can understand the traffic problem as i drive around Bengaluru on an avg of 40kms daily, somedays even around 80-90kms due to my work commitments. But still i would love to drive my bike compared to scooter(My personal opinion).

@gambitrite

Thanks a lot for your review. KG given.

I’m glad to know that it won’t be a big deal to switch to a scooter from Motorcycle.

Honda activa seems to be first choice among scooter buyers. I’m reluctant to buy Activa for 2 reasons. The suspension on 110cc Activa seems to be poor and secondly, the attitude of Honda dealership sucks big time. I have owned a Honda for 6 years and i know how bad their customer service is. As a matter of principle, i’m never going to spend any money on a company that takes their customers for granted.

BTW, I stay in BTM layout stage 1

After driving my bike for more than 8 years, i didn’t find the suspension to be good on any of the scooters. I stay quite near to you (just 3-4kms away).

Activa is no1 seller, every family has one !
I found dealership at Access also bad, hence shifted to Activa.

However, ride on bike has Macho experience and I can ride Jaipur -Delhi or
Delhi-Dehradun through it. The same will not be possible with Activa esp. on hilly areas.

Only benefit with Activa is Male Famale both can use as just a medium of transport , missing the thrill part.
No friends /beers/masti with scooter.
Overtaking /honking is FUN on bike, however, it fazed away once your family size increases.

If u have bike we can go to coorg on that.

I would recommend the Honda Dio. Has good resale value… (especially in Blr)
I had a similar traffic problem in Blr, had purchased a second hand Honda Dio for 25k, used the vehicle for 6 months and later on sold it for 28k. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

Pros:
Stylish
Honda Service
Boot space
Spares availability
