Anger Management for the Facebook Era

(Credit: http://newsflicks.com/story.php?story_i…05)

You see a post/tweet and you feel offended. First reaction: blast the poster, make your point. Online rage is quite par for the course now. It’s your daily dose of entertainment, your two bits and some excitement for the next few days. But here’s why and how you should beat the online anger spiral.

Why so angry?

hanks to the anonymity and lack of accountability, it’s easier to be mean.
There is a sense of relative safety when you hurl abuse from a keyboard.
On social media, you remove social cues and reactions, making it easier to not think about it.
You can have a lengthy monologue.
It gives one a feeling of accomplishment.
You can’t physically be everywhere, so ‘armchair activism’ makes sense.

Give up gussa, NOW
(Attn: Captain/dvd, neoman/viveka, DAN etc.)

For starters, consistent anger is stressful. When you are angry, the stress hormone cortisol levels rise in your body.
Online rage may pass quickly, but the effects last longer.
Everyday angry posts and reactions will make people on your friend list wary of you.
Most online comments are extraordinarily aggressive, without resolving anything. And a strong emotional experience that doesn’t resolve itself in any healthy way is not good for mental health.

Avoid online debates
If the offender is a friend, it’s better not to get into an online debate. It’s always better to consider talking to them about it in person. People tend to avoid uncomfortable situation in person. But to actually make any difference it’s just better to talk minus emojis and hashtags.

Clear the Clutter

Home Life :: #711
By Hillary Beane from Boston USA.

“Tired of all the junk in your life? If you often find yourself cleaning up clutter or looking for more space in the closet to shove all your stuff in, it might be time to give a wholehearted effort to cleaning all the junk that’s collected over the years. Spend a little time this weekend going through your home and you might realize that most of what fills your drawers is just taking up space. Once your living space is clutter-free and simplified you may find your mind is more relaxed and comfortable too”

Note: I personally follow 6 month generic rule: If I have not used anything for the last 6 months, there is a most likely chance that I shall not be using that in another 6 months so why not giving these things (shoes, garments, books, blankets, kids toys) and make a big difference in someone’s life.
