My theory is 2300Mhz too much congestion hence the websites don’t open and data loss is high. Switching to other bands may help those who are facing bad speed.

Edit: I have also checked on places with better signal strength/quality but that didn’t improve anything hence more likely a congestion issue.

Your theory is indeed correct, bro! I have something interesting to share today about this.

I have been using my Lyf phone purely as a hotspot and it was kept at the same location for a few weeks now. Somehow, Jio forced an update on my phone (despite my OTA settings) and it got stuck on the boot screen while applying the update. So I was forced to manually reboot it a few times to make it start finally (phew!).

After the phone started, I happened to run the latest NetVelocity app and noticed that the phone was connected to 1800 MHz band while I was holding it. Ran a speed test and found the speed to be around 8 Mbps. Put the phone back to its signal-optimized location and noticed slow speeds. So I ran the speed test again to get ~1 Mbps speed on the 2300 MHz band. Bingo!

Currently, I have the phone in a non-signal optimized location (to force it to stay connected to 1800 MHz) and I am now enjoying 8-10 Mbps speeds again! https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_biggrin.gif CC @Magus @getready @GoogleCA @thunderguy @optimistic @sidbhai

P.S. I realize sharing/highlighting this here will lead to congestion in the 1800 MHz band as well. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

@DealSeeker The NetVelocity app does not show band info since day before yesterday here for me. Neither in my place nor in my friend’s place (5 Km away from my place). Most of the times, only Google products work well. Other sites do not even load. Guess they are testing something on a major scale since the same complaint comes from different parts of India. Plus there is always the congestion issue. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

They have released a new version of NetVelocity — v3.2.9. Try that.

Wow! Great tip. Just yesterday the phone was updated – and got a new wallpaper.

I assumed the speed will change. Ugh. Oh. It has gone from bad to worse – did’t mind as long as I was browsing…

However, reading your post, I thought I will check the speed / band I am on. And guess what happened?

The Net Velocity app is gone! https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif

Removed by Jio? Can’t find it in the app anymore. Not on Play Store as well. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_rolleyes.gif

Awesome! Mine shows 2300 MHz. I am placing it elsewhere to get 1800 MHz. Almost seems impossible. Will Net Velocity show the band value as 1800?

Thinking to keep it inside pants now. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

Yes, it will show 1800. To force change the band, it’s a good idea to also put the phone in airplane mode for a sec when you change the location. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

Novice here. Downloaded and opened 4636. Any guide which can help me move forward

Click>Phone info>scroll down>Set preferred network type>
LTE Only (would try to fix on 2300Mhz)
LTE/WCDMA (would try to search best network available)
…..

Select an option and see in net velocity your band and try to check the speed.

Ohh! That can be reached from the settings menu as well but i don’t think there’s any option to change bands? Are you talking about LTE, WCDMA, SCDMA Modes?

That’s strange. Jio TV works completely fine for me even when I get 3-4 Mbps. Try manually setting the quality to low/medium within the Jio TV app. By the way, another interesting thing I have observed is that Jio Cinema seems to have better buffering/compression and it works even when the bandwidth is 1-2 Mbps, i.e. when Jio TV fails to play even for 5 seconds continuously.
