So Tough on Admin/Mods
Being Admin/Mod is actually The Toughest job for any online community. Developers and Coders role is not customer facing one.. and can be improved over time… Whereas Admins/Moderators have to work in real time and we all must appreciate their work. But that doesn’t mean we should stop asking them questions or giving them suggestions. So this thread is for suggestions to Admins and the discussion following it is for explaining the reason for these suggestions.

All that is being highlighted in this whole discussion is, to exercise caution while dealing with such offers.
Before I answer you question, letme put a question to which you may answer to yourself. Do you find it bad to see Dainik Bhaskar or any other newspaper floating an which is obviously/definitely Fraud?? See attached photograph of Today’s Dainik Bhaskar, wherein lots of fraud advertisements have been floated. Try to make a call to any one of them and you will realize what I am talking about.
So the question is, do you find it wrong and wish Dainik Bhaskar should do some basic scrutiny before publishing such Advertisement?? If your answer is yes, then my argument might make some sense to you, else let me know, I will think of some other way to answer your post.
So, if you feel that such Advertisements in a leading newspaper are leading to fraudsters expanding and flourishing in our society, don’t you feel that DesiDime should also take a cognitive step to curb any such activities. Now the issue in FPD is, its visible to lots of users, who make a buy on the basis of it alone without getting into the discussion following the deal. What we expect from DesiDime to do is atleast safeguard the interests of DesiDime users. i.e. to put disclaimers in such deals with significant doubt over them.
Coming to blaming the company: No I am not blaming “Blue-Bells” here at Desi-dime… Its not the right forum to ask questions to them. Here I am asking questions to only to DesiDime Admins and users regarding implementation of some criteria/rules while passing a deal for being a FPD.
Apologize publicly: Well I am not asking DesiDime Admins or anyone else to apologize or do any such things.. All that I am doing is, asking them to Sit-together and think about the questions that I have raised. And still if they find them insufficient to Put a “Caution” tag along with “Freedom 251” offer, then discuss it here. Moreover, I am a volunteer user like you only. I am making my contribution to this community with a hope to make it better (And that’s my personal opinion, don’t drag it into discussion). So, don’t make it anything personal and judge it on the merits of what they are today… Not 5 months down the line. And on the basis of my understanding, what they are today (a company with ZERO ASSETS), has a very weak probability of existence 5 months down the line.

PS: In a hurry so closing this reply now. If you find it difficult to understand, then please wait… I will edit/proof-read it after an hour or so.

But how many of them are matured enough to decide whether they should avail the deal or not ? Forget matured many of them don’t even know proper english , so how would they know about it ? There is a certain amount of trust associated with every company and so is the case with Desidime. Why not maintain that trust and you would definitely reap benefits in the long run.
What is prime motto of desidime ? Is it just to save money regardless of whatever tricks, loopholes, fraudulent activities ? In this case I understand there was nothing black and white but you can find sense something fishy, right ? So simply you cannot promote the deal as you do with other good threads citing certain criteria, it could have been applied to this too.
It is absolutely absurd to believe people who do not know english are not matured….
and also equally wrong to assume people are not matured

The Freedom 251 looks like yet another iPhone clone, not only on the exterior (complete with the circular home button) but even the app icons appear like a rip-off of what’s found on iOS.
The phone also appears to be a rebranded version of another phone marketed in India by New Delhi-based Adcom. The Adcom Ikon 4 (listed on a number of online shopping sites) shares the same looks and specifications as the Ringing Bells Freedom 251, including the appearance of the Apple-like icons.
Freedom 251 handset will have a 4-inch WVGA (480×800) IPS display, 3.2 megapixel auto-focus rear camera, 0.3 megapixel front camera, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB of internal storage with SD card support, 1450 mAh battery, and Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
Adcom Ikon 4
Bookings for the phone will start from February 18 and will close on February 21 on freedom251.com. The deliveries, however, according to the company will be completed four months later – by June 30, 2016. The website was not fully functional the last time we checked.
The phone also looks nothing like the renders posted on the company’s website and on its social media accounts. The actual look of the phone, however, matches the image published on the full-page ads that appeared on Wednesday in national dailies.
Freedom 251 promotional image. The actual phone is an altogether different phone.
The image of the Indian flag on the rear of the phone is also not aesthetically appealing.
There are also doubts about the sustainability of the price model. IBNLive analysed the import costs of the components of the comparable Adcom Ikon 4 and the price of the components total to at least Rs 2546 (the Adcom Ikon 4 is priced at Rs 4081 on Flipkart). And the Freedom 251 is being advertised at a tenth of that cost. There’s also speculation abound that the price could possibly be marketing gimmick.
The phone will come with a standard warranty of 1 year. According to the company’s website, “this warranty of the product extends for a period of 12 months for the host unit, 6 months for battery and charger, and 3 months for earphone commencing from the date of purchase.”
The Freedom 251 was formally launched at an event in New Delhi by BJP MP Murli Manohar Joshi.
Currently, the other cheapest smartphones available in the market are priced around Rs 1,500. Last year, DataWind had announced that it is teaming up with Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications to launch the world’s most affordable smartphone, priced at Rs 999. The phone is yet to hit the market.
Established last year, Ringing Bells will start with the assembly of handsets in the first phase and aims at full indigenous development of the feature-rich smartphones.
The man behind Freedom 251, the cheapest smartphone in the world
“For your kind information, the bill of material (BOM) value for a product like this when sourced from the cheapest supply chain cost approximately USD 40 (Rs 2,700).
“And this, when translated into retail price after addition of applicable duties, taxes and with distribution and retail margins would be at least Rs 4,100 while the product is being sold at Rs 251,” ICA national president Pankaj Mohindroo said in the letter. He further added that even if the product is sold at lower margins in an e-commerce type subsidised sale, the final consumer price cannot come below $52-55 (about Rs.3,500-3,800).
“Further, there is no visible mobile operator subsidy involved in this, which in any case is not the way the Indian mobile market operates,” he added. Mohindroo said it would be advisable that officers from Deity get into the depth of this and ICA will provide any technical assistance, if required.
“We are bringing this to your kind notice, so that a scenario does not arise in the future, where the nation, the government of India, industry and trade are seen in a poor light,” the letter added.

New Delhi, Feb 18: Freedom 251, the cheapest smartphone on the planet is out for sale. Noida-based manufacturer Ringing Bells’ are offering Rs 251 smartphone on their website freedom251.com. Gadget lovers, as well as, smartphone aspirants are rushing to the site to order the product at the unbelievable price. However, tech pundits opine that it could be a big scam, since such a smartphone with such considerable specifications could not be sold at such a meagre price, with whatsoever the amount of subsidy offered by the government. (ALSO READ: Freedom 251 buy online: Sale begins, how to order Rs 251 smartphone through Freedom251.com?)
According to veteran tech journalist Aseem Manchanda, even the set of headphone, usb charger amount up the price which the company claims they are charging for the entire phone set. “Indian Cellular Association has complained to Telecom Ministry to look into depth on claims made by company (Ringing Bell). Indian Cellular Association says minimum price for 3G phone is Rs 2700. It is not possible to offer phone at Rs 251,” he said. Journalists present at the event sensed something fishy last evening since the sample phones handed over to journalists for assessment was a poorly rebranded version of Chinese smartphone Adcom Ikon 4. Whitener was pasted above the logo of Adcom before handing it over to the journalists. (ALSO READ: Freedom 251 specifications: 10 features to know about the ‘Rs 251 smartphone’)
One should also recall the high-handed attitude shown by DataWind, the manufacturer of Aakash tablet. The gadget was made available at an extraordinary cheap price of Rs 2500. Nearly 40 lakh customers had booked the tablet. However, only 2.5 lakh units was manufactured by the company. Many of the customers were left unattended by the company after major logistical failure. Don’t you think there was a necessity of a word of caution considering the numerous articles all around the web stating various facts regarding rebranded Adcom, no manufacturing unit etc. etc.
And if it turns out to be scam then who should be blamed ?
And even if they deliver the deal, then what would be the harm or loss to anyone. ?
Or in a general context what should be the default approach in such cases ? In my opinion if the return are promising then people can look forward to it. But in this case their background is not clean either so how would one decide whether to buy or not ? And they have strategically made the price so that many of them fall prey to it. So do we have a role to play or not ?
@saymyname No one is stopping You , You go ahead and beware ppl about the Company and his back ground as You can see many are doing that already freely , because its a Open Forum and all should take their own decisions !

I see more admins and “C” level (as in CEO, CFO, CTO) employees these days engaging in discussions on the forum which was rare in recent past. This is really good, instead of being ghost at once in a blue moon.
About the issue at hand Azaadi 251 : I think the issue is too pre-mature to comment on. We are always so quick to jump on conclusions and blame DesiPaisa for it. Its really purely a matter of personal choice to invest Rs.250+(1 dakshina) in this phone or not. When we rejected free internet (free basics) and all gimmicks that too by a brand like FB, then we are more than smart for this issue too. As said by someone (may be BeingHuman) you can’t stop people from investing in this device.
See this is the problem, India’s core competence is “cheap”, not the best. And quite obviously Indians are the lowest paid professionals (at least in the technology side), so whether it’s Nano, Mangalyan or #Freedom251 we will always land up making the cheapest, and certainly not the best. I would’ve a zillion times happier if we had tabled a product that could take on the might of iPhone or HTC. Also I’m sure this product will come with its own set of issues battery drains, call drops and more fatal radiation related concerns.
