Hi friends, Looking for a good brand 40" TV . I am not familiar with good brands in TV segment nor am I familiar with terminologies like LED/LCD/Plasma etc. Would need your help in selecting a TV at a good price. Need to buy it as a gift for my parents. Even if it is not totally high end full feature rich, that is fine. Please suggest some good deals around that.
Also heard it is lot cheaper if we buy it from singapore etc. a little information around that will help too.

How is Toshiba as a brand. And people were talking about USB compatiability eetc. Not sure if that is available in this.

Toshiba and Panasonic are actually made in Japan rest are Korea or mostly China.

40" LED’s are very very expensive but you can get 42" plasma or LCD for approx 35K which is really affordable

There is only 1 draw back with plasma which is higher electricity bill other than that its better than LCD panels.

go in for a larger than 32" screen only if you have a proper place to keep it or end up breaking the furniture.

In my house I have made arrangements that I can upgrade from 42" to a 60" without modifications because entire long wall has only the TV in the center with speakers spaced out to fit in a larger panel anytime.

If you got for it don’t try and be kanjoos on the cable TV just because he is giving it cheaper. You actually need a Tatasky HD+ TV settop box with recorder, a full HD DVD player or a blueray player and a good set of home theater system to go with it that too with active bass subwoofer.

1 tip…
Take the entire set of HT speakers, DVD player and TV of 1 brand only.
Reason : The high end TV have a lot more controls on the remote where the TV can talk to the DVD player and the home theater over the HDMI . Sony and Panasonic do that.

I am thinking both for 32 and 40 depending on the deal I am getting. So was looking for those options. Would love to have a LED one actually. Was just checking the difference which says LCD’s are also kind of LED’s but wasnt really sure. With so many brands in TV its really confusing. Not sure which is the better one.
Samsung, Sony, Onida, Toshiba, Panasonic etc. Toshiba was selling it cheaper i think. but not sure if it is worth it. Can someone please tell me which one we should go with when it comes to hig end tv?
