Friends,

I ordered an LG mobile from snapdeal in Jan. On receiving the item, I found it defective. Immediately contacted snapdeal support who asked me to take it to the service centre and then let them know what the issue was.

The service person told me it had some manufacturing defect but as it was bought outside the city limits, he could not give a DoA (Dead on Arrival) certificate. When I told snapdeal of this, they said they cannot do anything without a DoA. So I somehow got the number of LG service manager for my area and contacted him. He finally arranged for a DoA after many follow up calls and visits to the service centre.

Then I sent the mobile sealed with a DoA back to snapdeal for which they assured me they would get a replacement mobile. Three days after receiving the mobile, they said they would arrange for a new mobile in a week’s time. After two weeks, one of their executives called me and apologized for the delay and added that the mobile was ready for dispatch and would be delivered to me in 2 days.

One week after that, he called me again this evening and said that he would initiate refund as they could not get the item. When I asked him what happens to the effort, time and money I put in to get that DOA certificate, he said he could not do anything about that. When I asked for some compensation for all that, he bluntly said it was not in their company policy to do so.

Is there any way to screw them tight and get some compensation for all the money, energy and time I spent in getting that certificate and also for the reason that they told me so many lies throughout which makes me feel very bad? Please post your suggestions.

courier charges? They said they did not have reverse pickup service for my town. Then I said wait and having him on the mobile line, made a call to bluedart from my landline and asked how much they will ask for the shipping. They said 2600/- for the mobile worth 11000/- which I told the snapdeal representative. I could not control my laughter. He said he’ll shoot a special mail in this case and arrange for a reverse pickup. The very next day Bluedart boy came to my home and picked it up.

See this… If they are facing a loss, they can bend their company policies to safeguard themselves.
If we are at a loss, they keep quoting their f***ing ( hehe… you see how I have changed the word to a savoury one by replacing the letters with asteriks!!!https://cdn0.desidime.com/smileys/slaphead.gif ) company policies. Bullshit. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

Those mfs playing double games with me. One says they will replace, the other one says they will refund only the mobile cost. Every second day, I’ve to spend atleast 15-20 rupees just for calling them. Totally frustrated. https://cdn0.desidime.com/smileys/2SAw1.gif

If anyone has contact details of some higher officials, please help me. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

It’s the same. Lodged a free complaint with Akosha. But it seems they will also take action only for paid complaints. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif

A piece of advice from my side.
I have had these type of issues so many times and ended up spending my time, money and efforts.
Dont waste your time, if they are ready for refund then accept it and enjoy.
Even if you take akosha’s help they will charge you 499 . At the end you will only get what you paid and a few snapdeal cash which would be less then what you have already paid!

To make it more clear team akosha is just like an arbitrator who would take your money and also get something from snapdeal for settling this issue.
They wont, in any circumstances, give you anything more than few snapdeal cash!

P.S – I had the same attitude just like you have at present and i wasted so much time in all this and ended up with nothing just the refund. I have understood the fact that i live in INDIA !

Try the following, not sure but it might help…

1. Post on their FB page. make a reminder post almost everyday quoting your order number.
2. Post on sites like Mouthshut and consumer forums and send them links… (it had helped me in past)
3. wait for reply from Akosha basic service and if that doesn’t work, pay them… It’ll atleast guarantee your refund.

The second point in my post pushed Greendust guys to call me… though the issue was not resolved… but just give it a try.

I hope you get your refund and compensation soon. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

I second these thoughts. Although I empathize with you I’ll still suggest that if they are ready to refund, accept it for now. As for teaching them a lesson, you’ll have plenty of opportunities. Don’t waste your time, money and mental tension with these bastards. This transaction will only make you wiser by leaps and bounds in transacting online in future, not just with SD but all online merchants.

You can order COD and refuse to accept citing whatever reasons, if you do plan to take revenge. None of the companies usually adhere to policies, ethics and basic rules of transaction, if they do accept delivery. You’ll have innumerable reasons to reject CODs. Let the company lose their money, time and efforts… Tit for Tat.
And never forget to spread the word about their bad… just about everything.

Edit: It doesn’t make sense to pay Akosha if you get nothing in return. Mind you, Akosha is again a company run by Indians who’ve just different products to sell. They probably didn’t start up Akosha to help buyers but because this was a golden opportunity to fill this gap (between consumer and seller) and make money. If they were really for consumer, they would be replying to free content, which is certainly not the case. I had written to them what help they could provide me in filing a consumer case (not just sending notices) against Flipkart about 5-6 days back and also how much it would cost me. They were supposed to reply in 48 hours but…. lol
Who will one raise complaint to if Akosha is the problem creator?

Yes, bro. Last evening I called them and asked them to refund the mobile cost alone. Today morning I got a call and the guy said he would initiate a refund. I’ll get my money back and then do what I can do without any tension.
I just heard of consumerdaddy who take only Rs.99/- to follow up the complaints. Planning to approach them after refund and get atleast a Rs.1000/- as compensation. If I could get it, well and good. If not, I would be happy that I made them run atleast for some time. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

I am now experiencing same issue.(snapdeal is fraud )

Bought ,htc 816g for RS 17000,but touch panel was not working properly
Called snapdeal.com,told me to get DOA certificate from htc store which is far away from my home.
I dont know what they mean by TRUSTPAY with 7 day moneyback.
I was already been exhausted as i got product after 12 days from the day i ordered.
I called them again & scolded them,at that time they told me that DOA is not necessary & just return the product. After some time i recieved a call saying DOA is compulsory.(DOA-Dead On Arrival Certificate).
My friend bought same phone from flipkart.com which had a display problem,he returned the product just within two days after calling the flipkart customer care, they didn’t demand any DOA .
Since its my need i spent my whole day to get to htc store to get DOA .They told me to come back next day. When I came back htc service centre engineer told its a software issue so it is solved by software update.
When i reached back home i experienced same issue.I called snapdeal again.
(The worst thing is we have to wait for 10 minutes to contact the customer care which will be charged, they don’t have toll free number.)
I have told them the problem i experienced, the time i wasted and the effort i took.Still they told me to get DOA.When I told them flipkart.com don’t need DOA to return htc phone & they told me snapdeal is not flipkart. Its snapdeal’s policy to not return or replace without DOA.I told them I will go to consumer court, they told me “do as you wish”.

i contacted htc service centre & scolded them, the next day i went to htc store again & told them the situation, they checked phone again & gave me DOA .
i contacted snapdeal, they told me to email them the DOA.
But when i got no reply,I contacted snapdeal again. Then they told me to email them again with a complaint number i got.Still i got no reply,I called them again and told them to reply me to the email i sent or else they would tell me to get DOA again as the validity of DOA is just 5 days.

*Never recommend snapdeal.com to buy MOBILES or TABLETS or anything which cost more than RS 5000.
snapdeal has ruined my whole 4 days on this & thos costed me almost Rs 2000 on travel + Rs 170 on calling customer care *

@Akshay, you made so many fundamental mistakes in lodging complaints.

Don’t ever call an e-tailer without recording the call.

Try to contact thru email as the proof will be always there for future reference.

Never scold/rebuke CC over phone. Use choicest words (borderline expletives) with minimum emotion.

You should have got the DOA very 1st day from the service centre. Why did you take the mobile back without certificate?

There is a thread of das.subhradip (somewhere buried in Dost & Dimers forum) which contains the email id of SD CEO. Give it a try.

you did online shopping to save time so you not have to go anywhere to buy then why you went to HTC center for DOA and spent 2000 and 4 days ?

just file FIR in cyber crime cell that they not sent working product.
They will come in linea dn come to your home and replace it.

Do you really believe cybercell is going to issue this guy an FIR just for getting a non working product? https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_evil.gif

@akshay

Well, There are certain reasons why some ecoms demand DOA certificate.. Most of the orders on Snapdeal comes from third party sellers who maybe a small time mobile shop owners or the likes. If you return the mobile back to them without a valid proof that the item is defective then in all probability they won’t be able to return the product back to distributor/manufacturer. On the other hand biggies like Wsretail (Flipkart) will have certain agreements directly with big manufacturer/ distributors to take back Defective products without any DOA or anything( no strings attached). Snapdeal is just trying to safeguard its sellers over here. Ebay does the same thing. If you get an item that is covered under manufacturer warranty ebay will never help you instead they would refer you to manufacturer service center. Always take the return policy of retailers with a pinch of salt. The only ecom which offers true 10 days return policy for electronics is Amazon. Flipkart only has replacement guarantee for electronics items. I read some reviews online that even flipkart has started referring customers to service centers now. One of the main reason for this change are the customers who buy a product, use it for a few days and return it back claiming its defective. and then there are lots of naive customers who do not understand how certain electronics are supposed to work so they claim its defective and return it back.

DOA certificate is nothing but an assurance to retailer that the product is indeed defective and not a fake/abused return by a buyer.

There is not much you can do in this scenario. Many people are not aware that manufacturers themselves have a replacement policy in place for DOA items. I would be contacting HTC to know if they can offer you a replacement for the DOA item. I would say keep HTC also in the loop while you are in touch with snapdeal.

Another option is to raise a dispute with your card company( assuming that you paid by credit card). Card company in these situations usually stand behind their buyer.

Hope this post helps.
