http://www.techgig.com/readnews.php?category=Te…

Attention Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon…there may be another heavyweight competitor around the corner!
India Post, having one of the largest logistics network in the world, is now all set to launch their own ecommerce portal, which will work as a market place to connect buyers and sellers from all over the country. Although still in the planning phase, as per reports coming in from ET, the portal would be live within next 6 months.

India Post’s ecommerce portal is part of their IT modernization plans wherein they are spending close to Rs 5000 crore on upgrading their IT related infrastructure and enhancing their web presence. Additionally, Rs 2000 crore has been allocated to purchase new vehicles for speedy delivery of posts, and products.

But whatever resources they may have got, but when it comes to B2C marketplace, any government controlled enterprise is rarely able to make a mark. Reason being, in B2C market, with low entry barriers, there’s a lots of competition and you can’t take customer for granted. You should be able to offer best of the service within competitive prices. And this business segment we are talking about it too rapidly evolving for any government enterprise to understand. Decisions will have to be taken within hours. There should be professionals and experts taking the key decisions without too much intervention and controlling by bureaucrats. But sadly thats a distant dream for any Indian govt enterprise.

So I am least hopeful of this proposed enterprise getting any success. It will be another wastage of Tax Payer’s hard earned money.

PS: Motive of my post was not to criticize what OP has shared, but its just the anger of another Citizen against Government’s policies, how they are wasting our money.

Still I have some concerns over viability and rationale behind India Post’s move. Whatever resources they may have got, but when it comes to B2C marketplace, any government controlled enterprise is rarely able to make a mark. Reason being, in B2C market, when there are low entry barriers, there’s a lots of competition and you can’t take customer for granted. You should be able to offer best of the service within competitive prices. And this business segment we are talking about it too rapidly evolving for any government enterprise to understand. Decisions will have to be taken within hours. There should be professionals and experts taking the key decisions without too much intervention and control by bureaucrats. But sadly thats a distant dream for any Indian govt enterprise.

At max they can become priority courier partners of some big e-tailers. But seems like they are a bit too late in that segment too. Flipkart (e-kart), Amazon (ATS) and Jabong (GoJavas) etc all have their own delivery machinery much beyond initial launch stage. India Post must devise some strategy to get the Tier-II,III city and rural India orders in their kitty.

Hopefully somebody will infuse some sanity in India Post’s thinktank and this mega-wastage could be avoided.

So I am least hopeful of this proposed enterprise getting any success. It will be another wastage of Tax Payer’s hard earned money.

PS: Motive of my post is not at all to criticize what OP has shared, but its just the anger of another Citizen against Government’s policies, how they are wasting our money.

PPS: Re-posting this message (almost same as in second message of this thread, coz the earlier message is still showing pending to approval)

Massive Infrastructure and Reach, Inbuilt Banking Platform & Payment Options, Trust Factor

LOL! What infrastructure are you talking about? You cannot compare them even with a local courier service, believe me. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

Reach, yes. They have got the widest network but the dumbest workforce as well. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif

Inbuilt banking platform & Payment options… LOL. Try transacting with them, you will know.

Trust Factor… LMAO!!!!! Even their own employees don’t trust their service.

Corruption is very deep rooted in this system. They can’t even compete with any XYZ courier service, forget about Flipkart and Amazon. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif
