@rajrocks IMO, it’s too early to buy a 4K STB. There is hardly any programming available. I’d suggest you to wait for another 6-months or a year. By then, the prices would have come down and the technology would have improved.

But if you decide to buy Videocon, get it from eBay at 15% off using their Videocon D2H promotion.

Exactly its way too early for buying 4K TV.

in my opinion even buying 4k TV in india is waste. You can easily play blue ray quality videos in full HD TVs.

storing 4k content is also too difficult. If u r really particulara BT WATCHING 4K CONTENT THEN SUBSCRIBE TO netflix 4k.

In mean time u can take cheaper options like hathway HD which gives u wide range of HD channels in hyd.

There r very few channels streaming in full HD content and i dont think any regional channel would invest heavily on 4k infrastructure when they cant even provide HD streaming.

u might only find some sports channels offering 4k and buying it now at that premium price isnt recommended.

As suggested above, I too recommend stop buying 4K DTH Connection for now.

You don’t even have many channels offering HD content and you are talking about 4K here! Only selection content (not even the whole channel) was available on 4K, the last I remember was Wimbledon 2015 to have been telecasted in 4K on Tata Sky. By the way, I have seen a Sony 4k 55" TV at my cousin’s place, even HD content streamed over chromecast looks great.

As everyone else on this thread I suggest you to not invest on a 4K STB as of now, wait till some channels actually become available.

I use a TataSky HD box in Hyderabad and am happy with what I get. Most channels that I watch are premium ones that need extra payment so to avoid all the hassles I got an all channels package from Tata Sky. I also have 2 add on TVs at home so overall it isn’t that bad a deal to use three TVs with all channels streaming in.

As of now the only use of 4K is to stream 4K content from a 4K player connected to the TV, it’s more for enthusiasts than for common viewers.

I am suffering with Airtel’s high prices and lack of good offers so I would suggest you to get Videocon D2H. I am also considering to make the switch to them. IMO, the biggest plus with them is the RF (radio freq.) remote which allows you to operate the remote without going nuts over pointing it right at the STB. Not sure which (if any) other provider has launched RF remotes yet.

Their packages prices are also much cheaper than Airtel’s.

I generally compare the all channels package and I don’t see much difference in price between TataSky and other DTH providers.

Tata Sky all channels annual pack – Rs. 8400 (Ultra Plus South HD) giving 437 channels with 47 HD Channels and 387 SD.

Videocon D2H annual pack – Rs. 7800 (South Platinum HD) giving 501 channels with 41 HD Channels.

Addon TV costs Rs. 230 per month for HD on TataSky and Rs. 251 on Videocon.

I have 3 TVs at home so total cost on TataSky per annum is Rs. 8400 for primary TV, Rs. 2760 for 2nd TV and Rs. 2760 for 3rd TV = Total of Rs. 13920 for 3 TVs.

For Videocon it is Rs. 7800 for primary TV, Rs. 3012 for 2nd TV and Rs. 3012 for 3rd TV = Total of Rs. 13824 for 3 TVs.

One suggestion I have is to make use of every DTH recharge offer you come by. Whenever you have an offer just recharge your DTH account and keep adding money in it. Most time you find 20% to 25% cash back (Rs. 100 on Rs. 500 or Rs. 100 on Rs. 400) that effectively cuts down the price you pay by a significant amount.

Hows hathway HD in comparision with DTH? I agree that we dont get discounts on hathway but last time when i checked their service it was cheape in hyd.

They ver giving HD STB for around 2500. not sure abt extra monthly charges. For SD they r charging arnd 250 for 1 tv. and they give most of d popular south indian and hindi channels.

Yep, I would have to get a new STB/connection from Videocon and put the Airtel STB in my storeroom. The funny thing is that even with the cost of a new STB from Videocon, the first year on Videocon D2H would still end up costing me less than what I am paying for almost the same channels to Airtel. I should have made the switch long ago, not just for the cost savings, but also for the RF remote. Just being lazy. https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

If I remember correctly, Videocon connections were being sold at 25% off earlier on eBay as compared to only 15% off now. So I definitely missed out and paid way more to Airtel. https://cdn0.desidime.com/smileys/ashamed.gif

For 32" and large TVs I would recommend a DTH connection over Hathway. The clarity and all is good on Hathway too but the rare/exotic/special channels and HD channels are missing on Hathway.

Moreover if you compare the packages on DTH providers for the channels provided by Hathway the pricing wont be too different, may be a max of around 15% difference in price.
