@ishandon

(1) Whenever Grofers launches in a new city, they release a city-specific discount code (upto 30%). Try to find such a code for Indore.

(2) If you can’t find the city specific discount code then you will have to make do with 20% discount codes (max discount of 200). Use a new user code for your first order because you will need the limited quantity old-user codes for future orders. You can use generic new user codes like WELCOME or unique new user codes from Freecharge/OnePay.

(3) You can give the referral benefit to me by telling me your registered mobile number at Grofers after your first order is successfully delivered. I will have to tweet/contact Grofers within 7 days of your order and tell them that you were referred by me. They will then give me a coupon to get 200 off on 500.

(4) Every Saturday or Sunday, they give a freebie (chocolate, umbrella, fruits, etc.) with your order of any amount.

(5) Some days (like today!), they have a cashback offer from PayU/Mobikwik/Citrus. Combine the wallet cashbacks/codes with Grofers discount codes to get groceries at 33% to 44% discounts. Otherwise always pay via PayU to get at least the default 1% discount and the buyer protection.

(6) The way they operate is they buy the items from grocery stores in your area and then deliver them. Pure logistical service.

To add to the above mentioned things

1) Do remember people order from grofers because of the high discounts. They will have a tie up with a local merchant near your store and procure products. If they don’t find an item they will call u and ask if replacement is fine or else sometimes the delivery guy will directly turn up sorry product was not available and give u refund in cash

2) U should get bills for all the purchases and kacha bill for veggies and stuff. The bill will be from the store they brought the products from and not their own invoice

3) If they bring wrong products they have zero question asked refund policy. So if u don’t like or if u don’t want u immediately tell them and they issue a cash refund

4) calculation of cash refund: if u pay rs 1000 and then apply 20% off code value comes to 800 paid by online mode ( for coupons payment is only through online mode). Now suppose u bought 2 surf excel worth rs500 each in app and the grofers bill mentions 2 packs of Rs450 each ie 900. You will be eligible for cash refund of the net payment made (1000 -900) *80% ie rs80. However if alongwith surf excel u bought 2 packs of Saffola worth rs500 each in app so in all u paid 2000 rs -20% discount (assume no cap on max disc) ie net paid rs 1600. Now u get ur products bill surf excel 2 packs worth rs 450 each but Saffola 2 packs worth rs 600 each ie total bill amount is 2100. In this case ur not eligible for any cash refund since it exceeds 2000(also u dont need to pay anything extra since it is a prepaid order) . Same way calculate the cash refund if they don’t give u any item. What u paid and how much grofers paid. And suppose the delivery guy gives u less refund than u feel u are eligible just call the grofers cc right in front of the delivery guy and they will calculate it for u.

5) personally I rate quite high their service but others don’t. Their cc I have found one of the best but again people differ in opinion

6) be cautious while ordering veggies and fruits cause u should know the marker rates

7) don’t worry about more than MRP charged on app cause as I said earlier u will get cash refunds

8) after ur first order. Give ur mobile no to any of ur dimer friends who already has an account. He will have to call or tweet grofers that u placed an order and they will give him 200 off on 500 rs code. + @ninjaboy was running a project whereby he had promised to give each a recharge of Rs 30 ( but do this after ur dimer friend has got the referral coupon)

A brief sneak peak at grofers history
Based in gurgaon started operations I guess in 2014 (might be wrong) . Earlier used to deliver only in gurgaon also they used to deliver medicines also (which the don’t now) . Expanded to Delhi ncr in 2014 end after funding from sequoia then. Next was Mumbai in Jan 2015 and then Bangalore and then all over India. I don’t remember but at last it had valuations of 100 million $. Will be running huge losses that’s for sure. Their grocery margins last read were around 7 % and veggies around 12%. They are the paytm of groceries in terms of generating valuations from pe funds. Each delivery guy is paid 13k a month + 15 rs per delivery + 2.75 rs per km bike allowance. Twitter is best medium to raise ur queries or next best will be calling the cc.

Disagree with second example in fourth point..they used to do that earlier
Now they refund to me on per item basis
In second example, saffola rate was less on app..that price is set by them. They can’t charge higher than it by adjusting against other product

+1 I know about the new per item based calculation but that being said I found this way of calculating only in cases where a product is not delivered but don’t know if they do it this way when product is delivered but with higher Mrp. Also I came to know about a 3rd way of calculation I found that incorrect but still they did it that way. Both alternate ways are mentioned below

2nd way of calculation of cash refund

Suppose I buy Saffola worth rs500 and fortune oil worth rs 500 ie 1000 woth of products and they forget to bring or don’t find fortune worth 500. The bill for Saffola was 600 from the store they picked up the goods. So your refund if calculated as per point 4 of my first post of this thread would have been 400. But grofers cc will give u 500 rs refund since they dint get u the fortune oil worth rs 500. In short they have found an easy method they will total up the amount of the products not delivered and net of discount will give u the cash refund. This I have observed in cases where they dint deliver me a product but where they delivered but with wrong Mrp I haven’t observed or failed to observe such a calculation

3rd way of calculating cash refund.

This was my personal order in which they calculated a weird figure (rs75 by the delivery guy) and I was left scratching my head how they arrived at the figure. Called the cc and they gave me another amount which matched with that as per 2nd way of calculating and I happily took that Amt. So ultimately I found how they calculated that weird figure though I still believe it was wrong.

I had ordered products exactly worth rs 400 with 20% discount ie paid net rs 320. This order contained 2 Britainnia toast(300gm) 40 rs *2 = Rs.80. other products worth rs 104 were not delivered.

The bill from the store they procured the products from

1) 3 packs Britainnia toast (200gms) Mrp 30. Shops price 27 = Rs 81
2) other items same price as that listed in grofers app. =Rs. 216
Total bill of the shop where they Brought the product from = Rs 297

This bill obviously does not include the value of rs104 worth of products not delivered. Also notice I had ordered toast 300gms worth 40 each but they delivered 200gms with Mrp 30 each

1st way of calculating refund as per point 4 of original post
What u paid -what grofers paid

( 400 – 297) * 80% = Rs 82.4

2nd way calculating cash refund

Amount of products not delivered =104* 80% = Rs 83.2

3rd way (the weird amount of rs75 given by the delivery guy)

Difference in Mrp of Britainnia toast

Mrp of 2 packs worth rs 40 each = Rs 80 ( as bought in app)
Mrp of 3 packs worth rs 30 each = Rs 90 ( as given in the stores bill)

Rs. 10 more of item delivered they reduce from the amount of items not delivered ie 104 ( 104 -10) = Rs. 94

Then reduce the proportionate discount = Rs 94- 20% = Rs. 75.2 (That weird amount)

Personally I don’t find this method appropriate at all cause what they did was it was based on MRPs of toast and not the store price. It should have been on the store price charged ie 81 in which case the refund amount would have matched that as per case 1

( ps: if these calculations go over ur head just ignore. If u feel they aren’t giving u right Amt of refund just call the cc and they calculate it for u. Just remember u will get amount net of discount)

(3) You can give the referral benefit to me by telling me your registered mobile number at Grofers after your first order is successfully delivered. I will have to tweet/contact Grofers within 7 days of your order and tell them that you were referred by me. They will then give me a coupon to get 200 off on 500.

pathetic begging

8) after ur first order. Give ur mobile no to any of ur dimer friends who already has an account. He will have to call or tweet grofers that u placed an order and they will give him 200 off on 500 rs code. + @ninjaboy was running a project whereby he had promised to give each a recharge of Rs 30 ( but do this after ur dimer friend has got the referral coupon)

thank you pujari for not turning into a greedy soliciting prick. AsliDost https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

I have have used Grofers 3-4 times my now. My experience with grofers has been very poor. On every order there would be some OOS items. Once a complete order was cancelled citing products not in stock. During my first order, grofers did not bring lady’s finger claiming that the item is OOS. when i tweeted about the incident, i was informed by Grofers that, they tried real hard to procure the item but failed to do so. I was like WTF! I mean, is lady’s finger such a hard item to find in a city like Delhi?

Second incident was the most harrowing. I bought some Chicken sausages from Grofers. I received Sausages wrapped in some plastic bag without any label or expiry date . I was shocked when t took out the item, there was some white liquid oozing out of the sausages . When i complained, customer service guy wanted pictures first. It took about 2 phone calls to get the matter sorted out.

On the other hand, Peppertap has been excellent so far. All the items have been delivered on time. Unfortunately, Peppertap does not deal with meat.

The best thing is stick to the delivery company which works the best for u. And all having almost equivalent discounts go for the one which gives u the best service. For me grofers works out really good but it might not for some others. From what I find there’s little to differentiate the two services and it’s how the local teams of the respective companies perform which should determine ur preference
