Only Vijay Malaya could do that
549 for a month for Ola select is not a bad deal at all for someone who takes multiple rides especially during peak hours. I would have loved if Ola had offered guaranteed cab availability for select customers instead of airport lounge facility. If Ola can assure guaranteed cab availability with no peak pricing, i wouldn’t hesitate to sign up for Ola select. I believe Ola select is a step in right direction. It’s high time that these companies start to focus on loyal customer base. my Only concern is cab availability for select customers.

I believe Ola is running short of funds. They are looking at alternative ways to fund their business. Peak hour surcharge was a major revenue booster but bans across country on surge pricing has got Ola thinking. Peak pricing is banned in Bangalore. After the ban on surge was enforced, It’s very difficult to get a cab during peak hours.
6rs /km pricing( Uber GO, Ola micro) is not sustainable at all. Either companies such as Ola,Uber needs to up their fares to meet customer experience or they need to find alternate ways to earn money. At present prices, they are burning a lot of cash." Ola select" etc is just a way to build a customer base who would pay regularly. The only advantage i see in Ola select is no surge pricing. Considering that surge pricing is already banned in Delhi, Bangalore, i doubt if many would sign up for Ola select at-least in Delhi, Bangalore.
I regularly travel to meet my folks in Chennai who stay in an interior part of town. I never noticed surge pricing in that area for over 2 years but from last 2 months, 1.6X to 3.0x surge pricing is very common even during non-peak hours although there are a lot of cabs available. It seems like Ola,Uber has decided to enforce frequent surge pricing in cities where there in no ban in place. I’m surprised that TN government has not taken any initiative in this regard.
There is no direct surge ban in Delhi. However max fare is capped as per government norms, which turn out to be around 20 per km. So surge of upto 3x is still seen in delhi.

3.0x surge on Ola,Uber is more like 30-35 rs per KM after adding ride charges, base fare etc. I’m pretty sure surge pricing more than 1.8x to 2.0x will easily shoot the fare above Government mandated limits. 6rs/km fare marketed by Ola turns out to be around 11-14 km/rs on consistent basis without surge pricing.A typical 10 kms ride costs in moderate traffic costs around 140 rs on Ola micro while uber is about 10% cheaper than Ola micro.
@cybertechie wrote:That is true. My Point being base fare is present in govt fare also, though ride time is not. And the misinformation that surge is completely removed.

Lounge access is only for upto 2 hours. Currently,Ola Select customers can enjoy free lounge access on the following city airports:-
Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Raipur, Guwahati.
There does not seem any restriction on the number of times the facility can be availed.
