I don’t know if you have gone through the terms and conditions of American express credit card application form. They have clearly mentioned that any CIBIL inquiry against your PAN card will effect your credit score. For me, CIBIL score is much more important than 500 rs flipkart voucher.

@DealSeeker

Do you want to add something?
I was wondering whats the actual impact of credit inquiries on CIBIl scores?

maybe providing a fake pan card detail can avoid cibil score thing?

American express cards are actually worst. Never get it even if they offer for free.

They have a huge annual fee and the benefits they offer is not even worth the amount we pay annually. Also, many shops, online sites dont accept American express card. So its pretty useless.

Yes, each inquiry does lead to deduction of a few points. But there is no known standard formula. What I do know is that the points are deducted primarily based on:

1) How frequently you have been seeking for new credit (credit card/loans) in the past 6 months.
2) How old your “credit age” is (i.e. how long ago your first credit card/loan was reported).
3) What you current “credit utilization” ratio is.

I should also mention that if you apply, get approved, and start a new credit card account, the points deducted for the inquiry will be more than offset by the addition of new credit limit, which will obviously improve your “credit utilization” ratio. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Similarly, when you close a credit card account after the first year (as some people are suggesting here), the impact on your credit utilization ratio and hence the credit score is significantly more (5-10 times more) than the impact of a credit inquiry.

Hey, You get 4000 reward points (worth Rs 1000/-) as a gift when you apply for the Amex credit cards. So in the end you end up paying only a small extra amount (approx. Rs 150/- as services taxes).

So now you can see it as paying Rs 150 for Rs 500 gift voucher…

Hope this helps.

Friends,

Amex Gold cards are pretty good for the 1st year. For e.g. in March there was an offer on Amex card application (from Bankbaazaar) that gave Rs. 1,000 GV for successful application. It essentially consisted of a Amex GV of Rs. 1,000 in value that was sent 1 month post receiving the card. The card itself costs Rs. 1,000+ taxes but for the 1st year it is offset by partner offer.

Additionally one gets 4000 reward points which is equivalent to Rs. 1000. Essentially any purchase you make can be converted into a offsetting credit entry for the points balance at a conversion ratio of 1000 points to Rs. 250 on the card itself. Otherwise for a better conversion ration, if one has good balance of points, say, 5000 points then one can get Rs. 1500 GV of Amex on conversion. This is good deal for the 1st year essentially.

Some positives:
1. Any transaction at 4/5 categories gets you a Rs. 1000 bookmyshow Winpin voucher which can be used once for booking of 2 people. More details here – http://digiqom.com/amexmonthlyblockb...r/. These transactions however have to be atleast of Rs. 1000 in value (each) and in each of the 4/5 categories. No tricks work here https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif. Also transactions of fuel, utility do not earn any points.

2.15-25% discount on the bill at restaurants that accept Amex (there are some in Mumbai) and it helps when one is going out with family. So it is useful. The list is available on the net but is not really updated (Amex India is lethargic in some ways honestly). You can check in the restaurants before paying the bill. This discount is on the bill amount excluding service tax and charges.

3. No fuel surcharge at HPCL. But this not that much a positive as many cards today offer this facility anyway.

4. The net conversion for the money spent (i.e. Amount Spent —> Reward Points -→ Conversion back to money) is at a ratio of ~200:1. i.e. If I spend Rs. 200 on Amex today the net amount I receive (as a credit or GV on conversion of the points) is Rs. 1. In Citibank rewards card it is 350:1. Please note lower the ratio it is better. In many cards since you cannot convert points to credit in any manner we cannot calculate the above ratio. As such those cards are definitely inferior (e.g. HDFC / SBI etc.)

5. Best spoken customer care on phone (extremely sweet voices willing to listen to you patiently but have a specific Indian trait – they don’t solve the issue:))

Some negatives:

1. Not many restaurants / shopping places accept Amex and hence one cannot make use of it in 50% of frequently visited places.

2. Not many online offers like HDFC / SBI / Citibank. These companies’ CC marketing team is definitely more efficient than Amex.

3. Purchase on online websites (that accept Amex) are not counted towards the bookmyshow Rs. 1000 voucher:(. This is a big letdown.

4. Rs. 4500 fees post one year. Not sure if there are benefits to continue after one year.

4. No email support in any manner.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

some of these amex cards are quite powerful….you could walk into a bmw showroom, swipe it and walk out with a bmw https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif (and pay for it the next month https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif )

Yeah …. and if u cant pay , They will drive away with ur BMW much faster https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

At least you get to keep it for the couple of months until it is driven away, otherwise you don’t get to keep it at all. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_wink.gif

P.S. Assuming you don’t have much of assets which can be directly or indirectly attached, can still get the card by some trick or the other and can handle the pressures of a debt collection, then you are King for a couple of months. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_twisted.gif https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_lol.gif
