I would suggest everyone to have indigenous millets. They are much better than oats and corns. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

@DealSeeker Your thoughts?

people like me.. can not afford Complan, Quaker or even indigenous millets.
so any option for such kids who want to grow? grow as in bulk-up.

as you can see, my physique still looks wafer thin https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif !
it wasn’t really nice that in my growing up years people chided me, that i look like a chopstick with limbs. https://cdn3.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_sad.gif
if it is some solace, my sparse moustache and the goatee (which i meticulously maintain), makes me look really dashing.

thankfully, now i at-least socialise and eat out a bit (at events, get-togethers) so there is some hope.

Just my 2 cents.

When doctors say to have Oats(as a supplement for fiber, etc nutrients), we are supposed to take Steel cut oats or rolled oats but not the Quaker oats we are getting here in India (Yes, Quaker do have steel cut and rolled oats in Australia and the west but not here, you can Amazon them, however they cost a lot). These ready to cook or ready to eat oats are as good as having our routine super polished rice where all the fiber content is ripped off the grain and what you will get is the grain with no fiber and only carbs.

I believe all these Quaker(For that case, any brand) ready to eat Oats are as good as having Maggi. PERIOD https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

Edit: Calling @DealSeeker @hese @rajrocks @Spock @Magus for your inputs on this.

Good to see someone paying close attention to what he eats and being skeptical about the marketing hype. You are right and somewhat wrong. Let me explain. https://cdn1.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_smile.gif

As evident from the post by @meragoyou153, people mostly like to consume the sweetened varieties of instant oats. These sugar-laden varieties of instant oats are equivalent to eating the ever-popular, yet one of the most unhealthy breakfast items for our generation’s sedentary lifestyles — sweetened cornflakes. This is where you were right.

Now let me address your points about the difference between steel-cut/rolled oats and instant (processed) oats. Despite the processing, the fiber as well as the protein content of instant oats is almost identical to steel-cut/rolled oats (by weight). The difference lies in the glycemic index/load of the processed instant oats. Because of the processing, which involves pre-cooking and removal of some of the bran/enzyme, instant oats become easier to digest and hence have a higher glycemic load (as compared to steel-cut/rolled oats) which is not good for diabetic patients. But the soluble fiber in instant oats still helps to keep the cholesterol low for heart patients. This is where you were somewhat wrong.

In conclusion, instant natural oats taken without sugar (or with zero/low caloric sugar substitutes like Stevia) and even masala oats are healthier food items — nowhere close to harmful fast foods like Maggi or other instant noodles. With that said, steel-cut/rolled oats are surely healthier than instant oats. People who have the time to cook them and like the toothy texture should prefer them over instant oats. After reading this post, I went to the kitchen for breakfast. But nothing was there; I called the cook, but she didn’t pick up.
I took the packets of Quaker oats and corn flakes; Calculated the cooking time. Then, Had some cornflakes and bottled juice.

Ha! more than enough sugar for the day.

Guys, I have stocked a lot of Nissin Top Ramen noodles for the Kindle coupons. I don’t like noodles much; but after reading @DealSeeker post, I have to find a way to get rid of them. Any ideas?

@DealSeeker I need your advice on something. I was taking caffeine ( Americano Grande from StarBucks) if I have to keep focus for a long time (not often, but most of the Thursdays and Fridays). But the effectiveness is reduced over time. Now relying on beers ( Hoegaarden or Bira91) to stay focused. Redbulls effectiveness is hit or miss. Any suggestions on something that serves the same purpose?
