Guys MS has released its final version of the Win 8.1 as a preview for app developers to test their appsā¦
The update has not yer rolled out for the public audience until end of Juneā¦
Why wait until Juneā¦
Please follow the below instruction to get a copy of this fantastic update with the AWESOME Cortana (Which is available for only US) RIGHT NOWā¦..
Windows Phone 8.1 is only available to those who have registered their Microsoft account with one of Microsoftās developer programs. These include the Windows Phone Dev Center fee ($19 per year).
But you can get it absolutely Freeā¦.
The trick is to sign-up as a Windows Phone developer with Appstudio.
This method would void your warranty and you would not be able to return to the previous OS version (Win 8) once you have unlocked your phone..it would be a one way tripā¦
The version of Windows Phone 8.1 you will get from the developer preview is āfinalā but it does not include any device firmware or driver updates that will accompany the future, public releases of his update on specific handsets.
1. Charge your Phone completely,,,at least 80%
2. Go to settings and change All your Phone Language, keyboard language and region to English, United Statesā¦ (Please delete if there is any other language pack installed..like Hindi or English, UK)ā-
3. If you do not have any ENGLISH,US language packā¦download and install the same and make sure you have only English, US in the above 3 optionsā¦This step would ensure you get the Voice assistant CORTANA
4. Go to the http://appstudio.windowsphone.com/Pr...ts web page and sign in with your MS credentials. Start your own project (donāt worry, you never have to actually build anything if you donāt want to)
5. The above step would register yourself as developer,
6. Once registered, Go to app store in your phone and search for āPreview for Developersā and install the app.
7. Once installed, Open the App and accept all the terms and Check on āEnable Preview for Developersā
8. Voilaā¦ur phone is now ready for the Updateā¦Just go to settingsāā>Phone Updateāā>to finish offā¦
Guyz i have updated my L520 to 8.1 (See some Screenshots Below) using the above method and it is worth the tryā¦.

1) after doing this upgrade, are we eligible to upgrade to 8.2 or next public version whichever comes in India? Can we free upgrade to 8.2 over wifi whenever that launched publickly?
2) this 8.1 will support Indian apps or current apps which are compatible to 8.0 (current India public release)?

Remember u can opt out from getting all the pre released updates from MS jus by unchecking the “enable preview for developers” option in the developer app..š

Do I need to change the timezone to US (PST, CST) or it can remain India tz?
I have downloaded US English keyboard (23 MB) and deleted other keyboards.
I also changed Speech = English US
Language+Region = English US at 2 places inside.

I am gonna wait till june end, donāt want to void my warranty yet. Just seven months more!!!:-D 
Anyway VnS, will be of use in future.
I don’t think warranty will void as all phones in India are unlocked. Warranty will void only if it is locked and we are unlocking to install the new OS. I might be wrong here so no harm in checking by calling Nokia customer care. Best option is sending an email to Nokia customer care as I always noted that email queries are addressed with right SME than query over a phone. Just my two cents!!
Just go ahead. Don’t worry about warranty. This method doesn’t put your phone at risk in any way. It’s different from aAndroid.
If people are still thinking then I say don’t think. Just go ahead.
I am not getting CORTANA. Everything is US English. Serached in app store also, but no results of this app

I mean If you install something like bing finance, can you see Sensex and Nifty or something from US?

Most developers have automatically updated on 14th itself.

If you change the Phone region to US, You should see apps available at that region by defaultā¦ But you can always use the search option if you need to install a particular appā¦
You can also change the region back to India to install any region specific appā¦.

Guys and any Tech geeks out there, can you please help me out with a query.
I been an android for the past 4 years. I have given a thought of moving on to any Lumia series phones so much. But I have a small problem for that and I haven’t found the solution till now.
I need an “applock” so that I can lock my messages, gallery or any other particular app that I do not want others to access. I have googled about this alot, but of no use.
So kindly, someone please do let me know if Windows 8 or even 8.1 has any such apps to lock messages and gallery mainly.

Unfortunately there isnāt any app to Lock/hide apps or SMS in windows phone currentlyā¦.
However you can simply lock your phone (password protected) or store your images securely in any password protected 3rd party app available in the store for freeā¦
Even, there isnāt any option till now (in both OS 8 and 8.1) to switch off the SMS toast notifications which pops up every time your phone receives a message:-? ā¦
This is quite irritating while using other apps like camera and games:evil: ā¦.
Hope MS should look into this in future updates.:roll: ā¦
any tricks to unlock lumia 520 at&t by this methodā¦.:-?

Thanks for the post, I was able to upgrade to 8.1 in Lumia 520. But I cant see Cortana in the installed apps list or in the apps store. I had set region, language and keyboard as US english. I think I failed to make change for speech language before upgrade and so Cortana didnt come in upgrade. Now I have set the speech lang as US Eng, is there any way to get Cortana?

Not to worry….Cortana is not a separate app..it comes bundled with the win 8.1 update….its just u need to fool ur phone to believe that u r using it in US and magically Cortana would show on ur phone…
Change ur region to US..(restart required)
Change ur keyboard Lang to US English ( remove any other language like Hindi.
.english UK etc )
Go to language option and download English US pack.once downloaded press and hold onto it and move it to the top position….also remove any other language if u find inside this option—-u can do it by press and holding and clicking on “remove” option
Once all done restart ur phone….
If everything has been done correctly…u should be able to launch Cortana by tapping on the windows search key( key which launches Bing early on)

Got a problem, 
After the 8.1 update I canāt see the calendar app. But there is something showing as @mscalendar in the applist and the app is āinstallingā for hours, Restarted phone but still showing the same.
any solution to remove or delete installing app?
Try hard reseting ur phone….
Switch off ur phone
Press and hold camera ,power and volume dn button
After a few sec, ur phone will vibrate
Now release the power button alone holding the camera and vol dn button
After 10 or 20 sec release the buttons…
