@Mayavi I contacted WD India customer care & they denied having knowledge of any such cloud storage offer with WD My Passport drives & told to clarify it with flipkart support. Flipkart support have no idea about this & the support person took my query as feedback to pass on to retailnet seller but I am not expecting much from this. If cloud offer is confirmed then WD drive with same capacity cloud storage is the best option but if not then seagate drive with its 3 year data recovery feature is better. Also flipkart support said only replacement option is available & not refund for these products so in case cloud offer is not working you will be stuck with WD drive with no chance of refund & get seagate drive.

Never use more than 2TB portable hdd with mobile phone directly without using a powered usb hub like the one in below link(assuming hub connected with mobile power adapter of at least 18w 1.5a capacity to be on safe side in case of more than 1 hdd) unless you want to risk damaging your portable hdd/mobile phone port in the long run. Below hub uses micro-usb cable(the usual Boat cable which goes for 99 in the sale works fine with it) to connect to adapter & when adapter power is connected then it draws power both from device usb port as well as adapter.

Mobile connection works with just the included C-C cable right? (No adaptors*)
My personal experience is that both WD and Seagate suck but Seagate sucks a bit lesser.
I had read that HGST laptop internal HD had the least failures. So I bought a internal HDD and put it inside a case. Even that conked very soon.
So nothing is consistent. its purely lottery. Also I heard for data recovery warranty we have to mail to the location mentioned by company. It could be in another city. So we have no control if they are making copies of our personal data for their own purpose.
Few hard lessons learnt after spending several 10000s for data recovery:
1) Always keep a copy of most important data across all HDD. Be sure to keep it inside one topmost folder. Sometimes datarecovery cost is less if you say “give me only this folder’s contents”
2) Also always make sure that u dont leave ur connecter plugged into HDD at all times, cos if the connector keeps moving inside a bag or some book is pressing it, the connector slot could become lose or corrupted.
3) Buy a fall proof case which protects the HDD from head damage
4) Never connect HDD directly to Samsung or other “Smart TVs” like that. They dont unmount the drive properly also they could short circuit the drive. Samsung TV spoiled my new HDD.
5) always try to unmount drives using the OS feature.
Well said, in addition you can buy 500gb SSD and store all your important data as backup which is more secure than HDDs. I have been using Toshiba 2TB HDD for more than 4 years without any issue till now even after it fell on ground from 4 feet. Recently bought 5TB Seagate only for movies. For optimal use, buy system with minimum 2 USB 3.0s with a USB type-c port to transfer data seamlessly over all types of devices.

Can we use these hard disk in Linux and windows system at the same time. I see in product details mentioned compatible with mac and windows.
It depends on file system of hdd & the OS you are using. NTFS is not used by linux but nowadays all major linux distros(aka versions/types) basically come with pre-installed ntfs compatibility software & can read & write to NTFS formatted drives so no issues.
Plz suggest which one to go for, backup plus, one touch or ultra touch. Planning to buy 2TB. TIA.
