I have always obtained my credit score and report directly from CIBIL by paying their fees (currently 500). But the banks do give you an option to get your credit report (WITHOUT the credit score, AFAIK) for a nominal fee when they reject you for a loan or a credit card. So if you have been recently rejected for a loan or a credit card, read the details on the back of the rejection letter to find information on how to obtain your credit report.

I do NOT recommend getting only a report without the score, especially if you have not checked your credit score within the last one year. But if you want to save money and are okay with getting only a report without the score (CIR), you can request that from CIBIL by physically mailing them a form with a DD of Rs.154. To add some more to the credit score knowledge bank, any credit card/loan application constitutes a hard inquiry and irrespective of whether its approved or not, it does affect your score and thus your future loan/card application.

Even if you are just applying for a CC via bankbazaar to get the gift card and you manage to get the CC, closing it after a year to avoid annual fees might affect your score, keyword being might.

I have recently applied for ICICI credit card as I was offered zero joining fees + provogue watch.
First my application got misplaced by them and no body followed up. I have to resubmit my application.
After 2 months I got the card and within a week of receiving the card I got my monthly statement (2 days back).

I was surprised to see that they charged for joining fees and when I called customer care they said you have to pay this. They also refused to provide the free provogue watch. I wrote them with a copy of emailer that I had received and they refused again.

So be wary of forwarding your application as high chances are that they will dent your CIBIL score. All these are false promises to meet targets.

I was also concerned about it and have told them both verbally and in written that no hanky panky stuff should happen with my documents signed by me while applying for the first time. The irony is the person who took the documents left job within 2-3 days and was not traceable. I spoke with the branch head and continuously followed up my application second time around.

Got a call from ICICI bank. They simply refused on their offer and told me bluntly to file in consumer court as they also have a battery of legal team with them. They also said do you want to cancel the card if you don’t want it. They told me that the offer was made to selected customers under corporate offer. I told them if I was not selected one or my corporate is not the one under your list, you should be sending me the offer. Their branch manager also confirmed me verbally after accepting my application looking at the company I am working with. But they refused completely to stay on their commitment. False promises made to attract customers.
