There is no practical benefit of using a dual rank ram in laptop. Even in desktop, except for very specialized tasks it has no noticeable benefit.

it has up to 10% percent benefit(source:jarod tech),especially if the laptop came with 1rx16 instead of 1rx8/2rx8.Its not that bad to spend a little more for 2rx8(may be 500-1000 for 2 cards),especially when you are planning to upgrade from 16gb to 32gb.

That 10% is for specific situations not to mention laptops already come with very restricted bios so more chances of potential incompatibility.

For most ppl, those specialized tasks usually means some game. Dual channel is different from dual rank, also see my above post.

If you are upgrading from 16gb to 32gb ,it's not bad to spend a little more to get better ram.especially if The extra cost is less than 1 percent of laptop cost.here i am not talking about different speeds of rams,so zero issues with bios

I have seen some comments on amazon where ppl reported issues with dual rank ram compared to single rank version of same ram.
