I can see where you are coming from but I beg to differ. I recently bought Mi Piston earphones and I was really really impressed by the quality and the value for money. It’s better than my Soundmagic E10 earphones, costing 2K!! I can tell you first hand that these guys are not just another company. They blatantly copy apple no doubt but they are copying with style. Android used to be pretty far from iOS no doubt but the gap has lessened quite a bit. In some ways Android is better and vice versa. The ideologies of these companies are completely different.. But when the value for money is so high, I was compelled to make the purchase. Hats off to Xiomi for having come this far in such a short time

@corsair all you have quoted is about UI being user friendly ! I can quote you that iOS is a dumb OS and i have not found an OS which is more dumb than iOS . UI ahahahah !! You know you can change the look and feel of an Android device according to your liking anyday !! What about the closed iOS ???

Remeber UI is specific to the the user . In your eyes iOS would be more pleasing , in my eyes i hate the monotonicity of an iOS device . I hate to the extent iOS is closed . They force you to use the device the way they want it and not the way you want it ! Unless both desire the same .

For people unaware about Tegra K1 this is what Tegra gives you !

I have seen people using iPhones and they feel lost when they get an android phone in their hands. The Mac users says MacBook with Maverick or MountainLion is the easiest operating system to use.
When I use MacBook, I feel it is difficult to use than Windows! I know many new users shift to MacBook for editing asked me to install windows initially (dual boot) as they do not able to navigate and find out.

For me, I love android for the option it gives. Root it, install custom software, enjoy the way you want that device to look etc etc.

We should also consider people who use device only for calling, whatsapp or messaging, browsing and other basic needs like facebook, watching videos/rhymes for babies etc. Why one worry about the hardware much if they are not game savvy or not worried much about other high end stuffs. So, let them be.

MiUi6 is fluid OS still with bugs (i own an mi3). Waiting for the kernal to be released so that i can get a cm12 (proper one). I hate to use ROMs with bugs (restarts once in a day, video not working, use that app from appstore to avoid this problem etc etc). Everyone know that iOS is smooth too.

Since apple is having lots of restrictions (bluetooth, external device etc), they perform better even with a less processor. An i3 processor laptop from apple out performs the i3 laptops (same gen) which is sold at half price. Price is definitely costlier, but the performance too. I do not like apple as it is pricy. Definitely not value for money item (for me). Many use apple laptops for years together and they are happy with the amount paid.

So, lets leave every one to their own discretion.
If you are just using phone for only calling, Nokia x1 for 1500rs is better than buying an mi3 for 14K (I use x1 for official calls -only calls).

You’ve thrown the magic word: Value for Money. Exactly! This is where xiaomi comes into the picture. Comparing specs vis a vis, apple will most likely bludgeon xiaomi to death.

Yes I am talking about the UI a lot because that is how you are going to interact with a device rather that interacting directly with the snapdragon processor or the Tegra GPU!

iOS may be a closed platform but packages and tweaks are available for a lot of things you’d want done and I’ve never wanted anything that I couldn’t find. I wouldn’t change apple’s UI for anything in the world. No one wants to change something that is perfect.

Even with K1’s “magical” benchmark numbers, it’ll not match the perfection of A7’s tight integration with iOS.

If you’re calling iOS dumb, then a billion people using dumb iOS all over the world would like to disagree with you(I think there’ll be a few power users in there too )

For those few people who like to play demanding games on their tablet, MiPad will be a good choice but for the rest who like to get their work done with elegance, Ipad Mini will be a better option

I’ve been letting down many guys from going for Macbooks and made them purchase other high end laptops by different companies. Few times I was correct in deciding as they were not necessarily requiring that 1lakh laptop. But, those who are in to editing(video/audio/images), they finally sell the ‘other branded’ laptops and finally moved to apple and they are happy with it.

As you said, the OS and hardware is nicely gelled and that is why it performs great.

But the price. Last week I saw one MacBook with 512GB SSD (i7,16GB etc), and she bought it for 160000(One lakh sixty thousand). She is happy with that purchase and she was so happy after seeing those images which she captured using her DSLR. She was happy from day one on purchase. She wanted me to install bootcamp and win7 on it so that she can use her licensed (purchased software)on windows. Backup 8 to 12 hrs !!!

If i am the one who is spending,
I will think of a desktop with 24" with SSDs, AMD with a liquid cooling unit, a great graphic card worth 18 to 20k etc etc and still wont cost that much.

That is the reason i said it is all depending on the people.

I see most of the musicians (composers, editors, keyboardist) etc uses Mac laptops. WE CAN NOT GO AND TELL THEM THAT ‘Hey, you can get two good laptops in this price, buy another brand’. They may be looking for a laptop without a BSOD (BlueScreenOfDeath). So, let them use that

I saw a Dell laptop not launched in India which takes almost same specs as apple but fails in battery backup (gives 4-6 hrs where apple gives 8 to 12hrs).

Not while you keep a common price point in mind. The best money can buy, maybe apple is better.. But that’s a lot of money. But they are the ones who brought the tablets into the world, so they deserve a lot of credit.

A bit of an exaggeration to say the least. I have read ‘The Fountainhead’ and in fact, it is one of my favorite books. But it is not relevant in this situation. Have you taken a look at the sales model of Xiomi? Why did Hugo Barra leave Google and join Xiomi? Have you seen their immense growth? You have to give credit for that. I am not a android fanboy nor an apple fanboy. I had an iPod Touch 4th gen and loved it. It was way ahead of anything at that point of time. But right now, the gap does not exist. Being a fanboy of anything has a serious disadvantage as you will have to be blind to lots of great things around you. I don’t mean to offend you or anything.. but try to open your eyes a bit. I can give you an analogy.. It’s saying Flipkart is the best and refusing to consider buying on other sites.. Its something like that. I am not great with examples but I hope you see my point.

Few times I was correct in deciding as they were not necessarily requiring that 1lakh laptop. But, those who are in to editing(video/audio/images), they finally sell the ‘other branded’ laptops and finally moved to apple and they are happy with it.

As you said, the OS and hardware is nicely gelled and that is why it performs great.

But the price. Last week I saw one MacBook with 512GB SSD (i7,16GB etc), and she bought it for 160000(One lakh sixty thousand). She is happy with that purchase and she was so happy after seeing those images which she captured using her DSLR. She was happy from day one on purchase. She wanted me to install bootcamp and win7 on it so that she can use her licensed (purchased software)on windows. Backup 8 to 12 hrs !!!

If i am the one who is spending,
I will think of a desktop with 24" with SSDs, AMD with a liquid cooling unit, a great graphic card worth 18 to 20k etc etc and still wont cost that much.

That is the reason i said it is all depending on the people.

I see most of the musicians (composers, editors, keyboardist) etc uses Mac laptops. WE CAN NOT GO AND TELL THEM THAT ‘Hey, you can get two good laptops in this price, buy another brand’. They may be looking for a laptop without a BSOD (BlueScreenOfDeath). So, let them use that

I’ve been letting down many guys from going for Macbooks and made them purchase other high end laptops by different companies. I saw a Dell laptop not launched in India which takes almost same specs as apple but fails in battery backup (gives 4-6 hrs where apple gives 8 to 12hrs).

I cannot agree with you more. The joy that you get after buying an apple device is immense and the satisfaction that even though you’ve paid a premium, you’ve got a device that’s well worth it, is genuine.

Ah the price is what pinches. If apple products were available at cheaper prices, android would’ve been ancient history.

But some people gotta make do with dumb apple software

A5 chipset comes nowehere to this beast ! As far as apps are concerned there are tons of gorgeous tablet specific apps in Android on par with iOS . And with a table you definitely need an external storage due to content specific needs . 16 GB iPad mini is not sufficient for me .
Besides in terms of graphical capabilities this is way way above what iPad mini can do ! You cannot even compare both of them the gulf is so huge !

So if its only the aesthetics you are looking for iPad mini will definitely rank above this !

Don’t get me started with specs. Specs are just numbers and nothing else. An apple chipset can easily overtake another chipset with more than double the speed. on paper, apple will be the slowest of all devices as has always been the case but what matters is the real world performance. Although with the gen gap, I agree that the Mi tablet will be faster.

Yes aesthetics will be better in the iPad but it isn’t the only factor. Plus, the quality of materials used in an apple device will be 10 times better than a Xiaomi. And what is more important than the UI of a device? iOS wins here with its brilliantly user friendly and quality UI.

Graphically MiPad maybe better but the iPad mini is no slouch and can turn on the visual charm that only an apple device can provide. Storage is the only limiting factor which can be an issue.

We call can agree that iOS >> Android

I can see where you are coming from but I beg to differ. I recently bought Mi Piston earphones and I was really really impressed by the quality and the value for money. It’s better than my Soundmagic E10 earphones, costing 2K!! I can tell you first hand that these guys are not just another company. They blatantly copy apple no doubt but they are copying with style. Android used to be pretty far from iOS no doubt but the gap has lessened quite a bit. In some ways Android is better and vice versa. The ideologies of these companies are completely different.. But when the value for money is so high, I was compelled to make the purchase. Hats off to Xiomi for having come this far in such a short time
