I think it’s an amazing promotion. Not only do you get so many user sign-ups (+their personal data too) but also users are getting the chance to try out the products for free and gather feedback. Since the homepage of the site is itself showing the promotion on a grand scale, I doubt it’s something fake.

The only problem is that they were not prepared well enough for this massive surge in traffic on their site after the news spread like wildfire and now their site is not working.
