Do not buy a SSD unless you have to run programs from it for faster load times that too is only beneficial if it's usb c to c or a to c but beyond usb 3.1
For everything else like backups a traditional 7200 rpm HDD will suffice. HDDs have a longer life than SSDs and don't die out in a jiffy while SSDs though more tough with less moving parts suffer from instant deaths hence making the data inside irretrievable. HDD on the other hand are much more reliable
