A friend got charged an annual fee for an SBI credit card not delivered and later blocked. Any way to challenge this?

Some context:

My friend ordered an SBI credit card but it was delivered at a previous address where he was unavailable.

It got returned to the bank and later blocked but he wasn't contacted for a new card. 5 months later they've charged the annual fee and also started putting late fees.

Is there any way to challenge this? SBI nodal says that he has to pay. Any other thoughts or suggestions?

If card wasn't activated virtually using VC and no transaction/pin generation happened then card is deemed to be considered inactive.

Inactive cards can't burn hole into your friend's pocket.

Take this matter to next level

Exactly the same thing happened with the Citi Bank credit card. So far I am able to get the charges reversed. They will do it if you escalate to nodal officer.

With the copy of mail you sent to Nodal officer, lodge your grievance at RBI OMBUDSMAN exactly after 30 days of complaint at Nodal officer.

If you are not at fault here resolution will be in your favour .


also if the card was returned,  ask your friend to find the tracking details in old sms or eamils.

So there is no need to wait for exactly 30 days if you have already written to the nodal officer and he has replied to you but you are not satisfied with the response. then you can raise the complaint on the same day of response in the RBI forum, the 30 days waiting period is only for the case when you write to the noodle officer team and they doesn't reply.

No need to go in such long route

IF you can visit SBI card head branch (forgot the exact name)

They will take one written application and close it on the spot and charges + late fee will be reversed

Hi everyone,

The SBI principal nodal team came around and agreed to reverse the amount. They've credited the card fee (499) + late fee (400). 161 went for GST and that's not reversible. Thank you everyone for your help. Grateful for this community ❤️
