A leap of faith

“A LEAP OF FAITH

Once a man got lost in the desert. The water in his flask had run out two days ago, and he was on his last legs. He knew that if he didn’t get some water soon, he would surely perish. The man saw a shack ahead of him. He thought it would be a mirage or maybe a hallucination, but having no other option, he moved toward it. As he got closer he realized it was quite real. So he dragged his weary body to the door with the last of his strength.

The shack was not occupied and seemed like it had been abandoned for quite some time. The man gained entrance, hoping against hope that he might find water inside.

His heart skipped a beat when he saw what was in the shack: a water pump..It had a pipe going down through the floor, perhaps tapping a source of water deep under-ground.

He began working the pump, but no water came out. He kept at it and still nothing happened. Finally he gave up from exhaustion and frustration. He threw up his hands in despair. It looked as if he was going to die after all.

Then the man noticed a bottle in one corner of the shack. It was filled with water and corked up to prevent evaporation.

He uncorked the bottle and was about to gulp down the sweet life-giving water when he noticed a piece of paper attached to it. Handwriting on the paper read: “Use this water to start the pump. Don’t forget to fill the bottle when you’re done.”

He had a dilemma. He could follow the instruction and pour the water into the pump, or he could ignore it and just drink the water.

What to do? If he let the water go into the pump, what assurance did he have that it would work? What if the pump malfunctioned? What if the pipe had a leak? What if the underground reservoir had long dried up?

But then… maybe the instruction was correct. Should he risk it? If it turned out to be false, he would be throwing away the last water he would ever see.

Hands trembling, he poured the water into the pump. Then he closed his eyes, said a prayer, and started working the pump.

He heard a gurgling sound, and then water came gushing out, more than he could possibly use. He luxuriated in the cool and refreshing stream. He was going to live!

After drinking his fill and feeling much better, he looked around the shack. He found a pencil and a map of the region. The map showed that he was still far away from civilization, but at least now he knew where he was and which direction to go.

He filled his flask for the journey ahead. He also filled the bottle and put the cork back in. Before leaving the shack, he added his own writing below the instruction: “Believe me, it works!”

This story is all about life. It teaches us that we must give before we can receive abundantly. More importantly, it also teaches that faith plays an important role in giving. The man did not know if his action would be rewarded, but he proceeded regardless. Without knowing what to expect, he made a leap of faith.

Water in this story represents the good things in life. Something that brings a smile to your face. It can be intangible knowledge or it can represent money, love, family, friendship, happiness, respect, or any number of other things you value. Whatever it is that you would like to get out of life, that’s water.

The water pumfp represents the workings of the karmic mechanism. Give it some water to work with, and it will return far more than you put in.

Although I didn’t get a chance to see the post by Barood before it was removed, I am assuming he copy-pasted the myth about pricking a finger to let it bleed. Thanks for highlighting this!

It boggles my mind how many health myths are still being passed around in this digital age and how popular they still are.

@B@R_0_0_D Thanks for removing the false info promptly.

Bronnie Ware is an Australian nurse who spent several years working in palliative care, caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives. She recorded their dying epiphanies in a blog called Inspiration and Chai, which gathered so much attention that she put her observations into a book called ‘The Top Five Regrets of the Dying’.

Ware writes of the phenomenal clarity of vision that people gain at the end of their lives, and how we might learn from their wisdom. “When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently,” she says, “common themes surfaced again and again.”

Here are the top five regrets of the dying, as witnessed by Ware:

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

“This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.”

2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.

“This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children’s youth and their partner’s companionship. Women also spoke of this regret, but as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work .”

3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.

“Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.”

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

“Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.”

5. I wish I had let myself be happier.

“This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to themselves, that they were content, when deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again.”…

Lets not make these mistakes 👪

A perfect example for the dilemma we often face in Indian democracy!🌿

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other not.

Only one child played on the unused track, the rest on the operational track.

A train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange. You can make the train change its course to the unused track and save most of the kids.

However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the unused track would be sacrificed.

Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let’s take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make…………….

have u thought enough !!!!

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. Save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally.

But, have you ever thought that the child chose to play on the unused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was.

This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the RIGHT is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how far-sighted and knowledgeable the wise are.

The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined and was sacrificed.

The great critic Leo Velski Julian who told the story said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track were aware that the track was still in use, and that they would run away when they hear the train’s sirens.

Now, If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never expects that a train could come over on the unused track!

Further, that track was not in use probably because it was not safe. If the train was diverted to such a track, we may put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in our attempt to save few kids thinking that the train may run over them, we might end up sacrificing hundreds of people.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decision may not always be the right one.

“What’s Right isn’t always popular..

and what’s popular isn’t always Right."

“Art of living with crocodiles*

On a day, I was talking to my childhood friend who has the habit of complaining about the darker side of everything. His actions mostly disturb others as he used to talk about improbabilities. Being my childhood friend, I wanted to make him to renounce the attitude and try to look the brighter side as darkness succeeds brightness at the dawn of every day.

All our attempts to change went into vain as water sprinkled on the weeds. He used to say “Everyone is not good and society is not supportive to him and good to others”. His opinion about his family is also no different “No one cares me at home. They don’t behave properly the way I expect them to behave”.His opinion about his office life was pathetic. “My Boss’s treatment to me is indifferent and also my colleagues” he used to echo his views. Our failed attempt to change him forced us to talk about his pathetic situation to our Guru. He called him one day.

On the day, he had shown a picture of a pond in which many crocodiles kept their mouths wide open waiting for their preys. “Can you jump into the pond’’ asked Guru. Much terrified, “I will never jump into the pond whatever happens?” replied my friend. He took another picture which is an extension of first one in which hippos moving along with Crocodiles. Guru wanted to know the reasons from my friend “how hippos live in the same pond when you don’t dare to do” Much confused, my friend did not have answer and kept silent for a long time in search of possible answers.

Breaking the silence, Guru continued
” My dear friend, any environment will never be to our liking. We have to like them. The hippos live in the same pond along with Crocodiles for life. They never complain about the other friends which eat every passing prey. They understood the psychology of their living companions as it is a question of their life. Complaining is not a solution, you need to change and understand the psychology of others and swim along with the current and not against. If you can do so, your life will be blissful” Guru explained a life story with ease and precise.

Relieved from his stress, my friend started moving along with us towards a new dawn in his life.

How long 2 live? Till you learn 2 love

https://cdn2.desidime.com/assets/textile-editor/icon_toungueout.gif

I got this amazing post and learnt a lot. It was posted by a veterinarian Doc. She has narrated :

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Wolfhound named Rolly. The dog’s owners, John, his wife Lissy , and their little boy Shan, were all very attached to Rolly, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Rolly and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Rolly, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, John and Lissy told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shan to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shan may learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Rolly’s family surrounded him. Shan seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Rolly slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Rolly’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Rolly’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shan, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ‘’I know why.’’

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,‘’People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?’’ The Six-year-old continued,

‘’Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.’’

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

There comes a time in life,
when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it.
You surround yourself with people
who make you laugh,
forget the bad,
and focus on the good.

So, love the people who treat you right. Think good thoughts for the ones who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy.
