An Amazon seller was penalised by Gujarat’s Controller of Legal Metrology for providing shorter HDMI cables
Seller Appario Retail had sold a 19-metre HDMI cable for a 20-metre orders on Amazon

Officials made a surprise visit to Appario Retail in Bavla village near Ahmedabad, from where the cable was delivered to the customer. They opened a sealed HDMI cable packet, which claimed to be 20-metre long, but was a metre short when measured.

Details about the importer’s name and address were missing from the box, which is againn a violation of the Legal Metrology Act as well as Packaged Commodities Rules.

Well, a couple of things are going to happen.

They will have to bribe their way through this let alone the fine they will have to pay… which isn’t going to be cheap. Since it is in the news now, it’s fair to assume that they have already tried bribing during the raid but they couldn’t find the common ground.

Second, they will start selling cables with correct length now because if they don’t then many people/activists are going to drag them to consumer court because this kind of news spread awareness… at least for a while.
