Me too using it since almost 2000.
Got frustrated with Norton Antivirus, searched for other options and finally found Avast
Kaspersky and quick heal are the best if you want to spend money otherwise windows defender works just fine.
Also check your dm
1. Just use windows defender and do monthly manual scan with Malwarebytes or any free antivirus of your choice.
2. Install ublock origin on web browser.
3. Keep Windows Smartscreen and Windows Update ON.
4. Don't click or open non-trusted links/emails.
5. As for ransomware protection, keep regular backups of data.
This should be enough. No need to buy antivirus.
Agreed that John David McAfee was ousted from the group, but some of his points still stand on merit.
Stll if so far you felt safe or in future too have 'peace of mind' with it then, then by all means.. go for it.
However other alternatives (paid or complimentary) are there too, some with more sincere efforts to safeguard against zero day threats.
Avast or Windows defender
Kaspersky or Bitdefender ( far less expensive but a few minor issues unrelated to it's core functionality). Windows Defender will work well most of the time unless the time it proves ineffective esp. in case of zero-day threats. I have switched to WD temp. from the last few weeks until the RAM issue in my laptop is resolved as it's less RAM hungry.
actually, you dont need antivirus if you know how internet works, antivirus slows the system....just keep windows defender on...

Don't take McAfee!
Use QuickHeal according to me, I have also received McAfee Antivirus Free for 1 Yr with My Laptop but i wont renew it.
6 years and still using my PC without anti-virus software. Windows inbuilt defender is more than enough for average person unless you visit some dark web. Virus like things are rare nowadays ( it was common during early days of computer especially between 2004-2015 ), scamming people by using screensharing has replaced the virus and Trojan stuffs.
If you are still unsure then just tick the protected directories in windows defender ( in this case if something goes wrong then the directories which you had ticked before, will eventually become unaccessible for unverified software publishers or tempered software.). With core isolation enabled, your software won't ask for real runtime person along with root directories and this makes the windows defender standout from other 3rd part security software. Don't underestimate the security features of Windows defender, just explore it at least once when you have free time.
McAfee is a virus just use windows defender + occasional scan using free malwarebytes r enough, and like said in top comment using ad block and not clicking links is more effective than antivirus
Been using bitdefender for a decade now. Feels satisfied. Mainly cause the home desktop is used by multiple people and can't trust them with clicking malware links. Bought one this month only 3 devices 3 year on Amazon
pricing is good, lelo mcafee
Buy internet security not anti virus. Anti virus is suitable only if you are living under a rock. Bit defender, Kaspersky, Norton are all good.
