Hatred is like a small stone rolling on the slopes of a snow covered mountain or the waves of a tsunami. What starts very small soon becomes an avalange that can wipe out complete civilizations.

Do remember that Satanic Verses is officially banned in India, even today.

And the same day, I see a news article related to arrest of a terrorist from UP. Things are not looking good...

I wouldn't call pen mightier than sword anymore. The way journalists and authors are butchered or jailed in the present times.

Yeah hatred has a rather long life. That's why some choose it as a weapon, they'd get lifetime followers.

If you boycott/ban something today there is no guarantee that will not result in some fanatic taking inspiration from this ban/boycott & stab someone years later. In more simpler terms, banning/boycotting should only be decided in courts based on clear evidence(aka no "someone's hurt sentiments" as you can't measure them via a thermometer).

I was in school in 1988 when Satanic Verses was released. First there was a call for boycott. Then there was an appeal to the Govt to ban the book. then there was a death threat. After more than 3 decades, it has reached the stage of murderous attack.

Same thing is happening again with the calls for boycott of persons and movies. Who knows what this will end up in 2 decades time.

Lighting a fire is in your hands. But once the fire is big enough, no one can control it, the fire takes its own course and burns everything in its path.

Occupied by TV nonsense and Twitter nuisance, people don't even think a day ahead, you are talking about 20 years from now.

From the way things are moving, i feel 20 years from now, there would be less harmony, more discord, our kids would be in a less safer planet.

And for me, 1988 seems just like few days back.

Death threats and fatwas come from single source  only and people compares it with simple boycotts. Now they want to remove our peaceful protests rights too.
