Axis credit card application - confusing journey

I applied for axis neo credit card yesterday online, I have no prior relationship with axis bank.
After providing the necessary details, I was told to wait and received an application no.
After a few minutes, received an sms that said "welcome aboard, complete your vkyc now using the link ....". So I assumed it's been approved, did the kyc. Then no reply.
I checked the application status today, it only shows applied.
No eligibility check done, etc. Again to wait for 5 - 7 working days.
Since I received the "welcome aboard " message, I thought they have done their checking.
1. Why did they ask me to do vkyc before even checking?
Every card before this either processed the application, approved and asked to do kyc.
Or rejected the application, After the application stage.
This is very strange.
2. Is this the norm with axis?

Why ask the applicant to do kyc, if they still haven't bothered to check eligibility?
That's what drives me nuts. No card company in my experience did this.
So, if they reject the application now, the customer has provided all the personal information and did the money dance they make as do while doing kyc was all nothing.
They got data of people who they weren't going to take as customers. That's fraud.

ya weird mostly after approval only vkyc is initiated, so i think your card is approved, just the status is not updated in the online tracking portal. dont worry as vkyc is done probably your card is approved
Which card you applied btw?
