Hi folks,
My cousin had bought a new Bajaj Avenger Street 160 ABS (BS4) model in January 2020 in Bangalore; used it hardly for a month till Feb, then lockdown started; It’s driven some max 500Kms only and is in excellent brand new condition… Now he is shifting out and doesn’t need the bike, so he got two choices, either move it to his native so some family member can use it, or sell it; He had bought it at an final on-road price of around 1.1 Lakhs (including everything);
Any idea what could be the expected selling price if he plans to sell it (noting that it’s just 500kms driven and completely new) ? Also suggest whether selling it is better or just move it to native so some family member can use it…

Investment of 110k can go in vain if he plans to sell it because he might not get his desired selling price. I would suggest him to give his bike to someone who can really use it or else he would be at loss if plans to sell it to encash money. Hope this helps.

All coz of korona. Even 95k is way too less for his bike. Ideal price would have around 1.05L or more but it would be really tough to get any buyer at this price. So it’s better atleast someone uses his bike grinning

Giving it to some family member can cause complete loss – have practically seen the cribbing later but of no use
Also native is not KA so transferring etc will cost more than 20K+lots of time and inconvenience, (new roadtax itself may come to around 10K in new state)
Better sell it in BLR, post here pics and expected price
Actually showrooms also arrange good buyers(hassle free selling)
My sister purchased new TVS Jupiter but felt completely uncomfortable, finally returned after around 40 days at Rs10K loss

Bajaj bikes have less resale value.. check OLX to get an idea what would be resale price. my suggestion is to use it and then sell it to get value for 1L @BlueFlash

Shifting out; meaning out of India? If that’s the case better sell it even if it’s a loss. There is facebook market place and a few other groups where majority of folks are based in Bangalore. You can find a decent seller there unlike most scamsters from olx.

Edit: If out of India for maximum of one year, it is worth keeping it with a trusted and responsible friend.

Ok sure; native is in JH; also true that no one will actually use it (elderly dad only), will be just lying in garage, maybe run once in a while to keep it running… Btw, transportation cost will be this much ? Why road tax again ? I didn’t know about this !

Yeah out of India; at least for 2-3 years… No harm in keeping at home just that it will be lying there; Also to be honest, we don’t like to sell things coz of sentiments; so he’s like only if he gets till 95kish then fine, else will keep it, as he isn’t need of that money to be honest.

Hardly 70-80 if the condition is pristine. Try to send it to the native place.

If you want a number of the native place then it will mean transferring the rc to the native place and then you will have to pay road tax again. India hai yeh mere dost. Aam aadmi ki koi aukaat nahi yaha.

Transportation+re-registration in JH involves registration charges of 3-4K+Roadtax(yes, again b’cos of selfishStateGovts), NOC from BLR may cost around 2K
so total can be well above 20K

Try olx for your city first as suggested above, also contact the showroom where it was bought to see if they give some decent offer.

Lagta hai India ke second hand market (auto, electric appliances etc.) se kabhi paala nahi pda.

I get your sentiments part.

Here’s my take on this. Any items on shelf for longer period will deter a buyer like me. Particularly if it is automotive/electronics, I stay away from them the moment I hear unused for min of 6 months. FYI there is one avenger(friend’s) in my garage sitting idle since lockdown. He left here due to relocation. It pains me to see a vehicle accumulating dust/rust etc. And it is not sold for the same sentiment reason.

I already have a bike, hence cannot use another one. Before lockdown, I used to take both the bikes on alternate week basis, then came the car, and finally the lockdown. I reminded him several times, he wanted to sell it, but the home ministry is not in line with that.

Do not take NOC unless it is decide to pay tax and re register the vehicle. Taking NOC and not paying tax or reregistering will put the owner in altogether different land of troubles to deal with. Transportation can be handled through Indian Railways IMO.

Thanks all for your suggestions; I talked to him and and we did some calculations; If moving the bike to our native itself will cost say 20K, then the effective price can be said as 110k-20k=90k; taking depreciation/usage cost of say 10K, so if now he gets say 90-10=80Kish also this makes sense to sell it there itself, convenience-over-cost;
Let’s see what he finalizes on; still in dilemma; he’s still got like 2 months till he leaves for, so some time to think and close the deal.

If planning to sell, get all the documentation straight. Like sale agreement, ownership transfers etc things. Usually if one is doing it personally without involving agents, these tasks are little time consuming. So factor in those as well.
