Hi.

I recently bought an expensive cow ghee because everyone in family wanted a pure cow ghee. It is very costly.

But now after receiving the ghee, I see it is white in color and some kind of texture sticking to sides. Also in spoon, some part is clear liquid and some part is hard unmixable part. Pics below. What do you guys think. Is it fake/adulterated with something?

Any more simple tests that I can do?

If whole ghee is of same color and texture + melts easily + smells & tastes good.. then 99% chance of being pure..

Nope. As you can see in the pic, liquid part of ghee is yellow / colorless while solid part of ghee is white. Texture is also different.

Also smell & taste was neutral (very faint smell, very less taste).

People add many things in ghee… They add mashed potatoes. They add vegetable oil. Some even add urea mixed with some chemicals.

Don’t buy ghee from someone you don’t know very well.

Here, desi ghee costs 800 rs per kg.

Ghee can be yellow/white, but never of both color together..mainly in case of packaged ones as they prepare is large batches, so should be uniform..

Recently, I had ordered Amul Ghee (white pack).. and it had almost similar characteristics (yellow at top, white at bottom).. melting was very hard even in such hot whether & used to solidify quickly even on moderately hot dishes.. and there was no significant taste/smell except for a small amount of liquid portion at top (which can be said ghee).

Had to throw away the remaining parts.. Don’t know what that was at all.. can’t say if that was even any_ghee / oil / dalda etc.. as nothing can be that hard & sticky.. https://cdn0.desidime.com/attachments/photos/576729/original/Screenshot_2019-07-22-23-32-31_com.bigbasket.mobileapp_1563818570350.jpg?1563818610

Original cow ghee have a strong smell & two colors are never there at the same time.. Moreover, just looking at the picture isn’t enough to tell if its original.

But, I will recommend NEVER to buy Amul Pure Cow.. (white pack/tin, shown in above post).

That’s cheap bro!

The original one I purchased last is 2 yrs back @ 1200 RS from rural areas and of desi cow (not jersey), pure homemade! They never consumed the cream. The ghee was grainy, texture was yellow and the smell is never ever found in any packed ones I have ever come across at others’ places.

I don’t exactly know the current market rate but I overheard the price few weeks ago. I think it was 800 or 850 rs. I will confirm it after asking my mom.

We used to buy desi ghee from my cousin sister but not anymore. Now, my mom prepares it at home. We keep a few cows at our ancestral home which is 10-12 kms away. Someone brings fresh milk daily from there.

Always a great idea to grow things on your own (to ones own capacity) than survive on other’s mercy. Self reliance is the next required thing of our time. Hope people realize this soon!

Actually, we were tired with the shitty milk our family drink. The milk quality is very very poor, doesn’t matter how much we pay and if we buy from cooperative/govt dairy or private dairy or dudhwalas.

So we setup this system. Now, we are consuming better quality milk and we stopped buying ghee, paneer, curd etc from outside.

The white pack of amul is not cow ghee. It’s buffalo milk ghee. The one in yellow pack is cow ghee.

We use Buffalo ghee as well.. but white pack isn’t that even.. Ghee is never solid in mid summer, be it cow’s or buffalo’s..

All The package ghee available in market are legally and also illegally adulterated .
Forget of getting pure ghee @ Rs 400 – 600 , not even @ 1000.

Calculate the cost of milk and cost to convert in ghee , you will get the percantage of adulteration in it.

True .for 1kg ghee you ll need 25-30 LTR milk only .Which ll cost around 1000-1500 .pure ghee for 800-1000 not possible .
