Friend needs a car 🚙 . I suggested him to get old car drive for a year or two then get new car if needed. He's not convinced & wants to get a new car instead. But I want your suggestions.
Driver level: beginner
Budget for new car :7L
Budget for old car: upto 3L.
Usage: 5-30km daily office , with occasional 200km trip once/twice a month.
Is is good choice to go for second hand car?
Is it better to for bigger car(innova, ecosport, ertiga etc) or usual ones like Alto/i10, swift /tiago/tigor etc
Any reliable online platform where second hand cars are sold?
Things to look for when getting a second hand car? Like model year, km run, pending fines, rto dues, gear shifting etc.. 🙏

Never ever suggest or force (even Little) in Car buying. Just present your views that too if necessary and asked for.
Btw begginer should always go with second hand unless you're rich enough to ruin a 7 to 10 lakh car for trials (initial dents and scratches, clutches plate heat, engine stall). Actually new cars don't deserve engine stall at all. It's painful to see.
I too had the same opinion initially a decade ago. But i was wrong.
Yeah. I told him something similar. He fears that second hand repairs will empty his pockets (so, might as well buy new car with warranty ).
Also please give a checklist to tick before buying second hand car.
One person known to me bought a indica vista for 80k & sold for 2.2L after 5 months. Whereas another one got a new looking Santro for 1.8L & sold out for 1.5L as he was fed up with frequent repairs. He later found out that the car was repainted to look new but inner parts hv worned out!
So it makes sense to thoroughly check a second hand car before paying the price. Everything which looks golden is not gold
Foremost in your check list should be Driving licence of friend.
He got his licence around 7yrs ago if I'm not wrong.!
But never purchased a car as he thought it was a depreciating asset! Now, the need has taken over the investment mind.
Best advice: Don't get involved in car buying decisions for others.
Buying a car is a large drain on savings, and the payments for emi, insurance, service, new car battery and the high fuel costs etc. is a continuous money drainer.
After the initial excitement is over, most first-time car owners will regret spending their savings on it, and they just look for someone to blame the wrong choice they have made ( it shouldn't have to be you.).
30km daily = 250 rupees in car fuel cost every day.
30km=250rs?.
Idk,my cab driver's 20yr old indica runs 18-20km with 1L petrol.
He was telling that he'll buy car since 4+yrs.but never purchased it even though he could afford. Now, He's determined to get a car, because they are paying around 5k monthly to cab for outing /hospital visits +increasing cab rental. He wants his own vehicle due to this + as safety backup.
