cockroach/lizard riddance/prevention

Background: I’m moving to a new(rented) place. The current place is slightly infested with cockroaches. I can’t keep my peace even if I see a tiny-cockroach roaming around. And now I have an infant to take care of.

I know there is enough said on maintaining things clean, but you know once infested, they will always try to outsmart.

I wanted to keep my peace at the new place, so seeking suggestions in terms and prevention and how not to carry household items.

  • Is it suggestible to empty one or two cans of Hit Spray in the new place a few days before moving in?
  • I’m aware I need to wipe clean everything before packing and probably do the same while unpacking. But no matter how much we clean, we may still carry a few eggs lying inside some appliance.\
  • Any other pointers I should bear in mind to keep my peace?

Update: As per request from @srp321 seeking ideas to get rid of lizards, please pour in your ideas.

Thanks in advance.

I always do the same thing whenever I switch houses, irrespective of the condition… Always empty 2-3 full spray cans at all the corners, sewage pipes, etc, a couple of days before moving in, so that it’s empty and then clean up just before you move in… Always worked for me (y)

if anybody has a viable and pocket friendly way for my issue, please do tell me. There are way too many lizards in my house, and they are a little creepy.

@andromeda if u have same lizard problem then i would request u to add my question in ur post so that it’s highlighted and people answer it.

Lizard is another that makes me lose sanity.

Here’s an idea I read sometime back. Lizards run crazy behind insects. Get a laser pointer, and point near to it, see if it follows your lead. If it does respond, if I’m in your shoes I would have some fun with it and eventually lead it outside. Unfortunately I don’t have much lizards around to play with them. I’m anyway thinking of making one laser pointer ready incase they show up.

This is something we cannot avoid though we clean it well..they can hide inside a appliance or some corner, is there a way to neutralize or deactivate them, so that they don’t hatch?

Cockroaches are easy, so are every other bugs really. Just spray with hit and they are dead in matter of seconds. The main problem remains is the mfing lizards. Mum kills at least two dozens of them every summer season when they pop out of their eggs, i mean with the savage coconut jhadu method, which is so disgusting. Still, even after 10 years or so, the number has not decreased. I can’t stand putting their dead bodies out, can’t even look at a alive one let alone a dead.

So can someone please tell me whether there is a way to keep these dirty disgusting pieces of shits out of my house? I would send you 1k paytm, for an actual solution, if exists. We have tried them all, the egg shell, this that, absolutely nothing worked.

Everyone hates lizards. One simple way is to avoid coverings for them to hide. close all your top shelves and all shelves with permanent wooden doors or glass doors, remove all the boxes, vessels from top shelves. replace the decorative wall lamps where they can go and hide.

From my experience to get rid of it.

lizards come where are are feed insects available for them to eat. one solution is keep the walls clean of all insects & spiders.

second solution is keep a CFL bulb ON outside the house during night times. this will attract all insects to it. it will prevent insects from coming inside.

third solution is put mosquito mesh on windows which you want to open frequently. this will again limit the insects coming inside.

i dont see lizards cause any harm. they are helping us by eating all kinds of insects.

well, few of the lizards have already made a place for them in the house (behind the TV, underneath the bed, on the side and few places more)
Although, that part I agree that they cause no harm, it’s just that we are slightly racist (they really look weird), and I hate it when they sometimes drop on my head or hand or anywhere else.

cockroaches come when there is food lying around in the corners & hard to reach areas of kitchen. best solution is to completely clean the kitchen once a year. if they are coming from sink area then try to seal the pipe properly. without food cockroaches will not survive so try to keep cleanliness.

OP it seems funny. But you can give a try :
I still remembered, Once in my childhood i was watching a reality show on DD national, that show was for indian smart house womens, in that show a contestant (a house women) told that if you keep some pieces of Original Peacock Feather in your room then in that room lizards don’t enters.
But that should be original not the artificial ones.

While packing do thorough cleaning and pack.
As for in new house sprayimg insceticide first hand is ok but. *I would strongly recommend to apply Laxman Rekha Chalk liberally in drawers below sinks , food storage areas ,inside bed box , near in and out of cupboards , keeping in mind its not in easy contact to anyones hands .
For keeping clothes use naphthalene balls.

Laxman rekha is a sure shot remedy which is not only economical but also effective for months together unless wiped with water or cloth or by moving objects. The chalk powder sticks to the leges of the creatures and it dies uselfull for ants also.

If kids or baby at home see they dont lick it as babies on floor crawl here and there and if they get in reach they just touch it and then the fingers in mouth.

Laxman Rekha is 100% tried and tested though it may take time to eradicate them depending upon the eggs in hatch process and the creatures start moving.

For cockroaches, the chemical used by commercial pest control guys is Fipronil. Even the HIT gel contains the same chemical, but it is not as effective as what you get from a chemicals / farm supplies shop. Try to source the stuff from shops which sell pesticides / insecticides for farming/industrial use/needs.

Coming to lizards, it is a different story. We now have lizards which look like baby crocodiles (6-8 inches long, n thick), n they are white skinned too :p They come from outside every now and then.. Firstly, you will be scared to go near them (I do), even if you manage to try to squash it, they don’t die unlike the older gen. I too will try that laser pointer trick to see if we can divert them out of the house.

All ideas of clean walls, egg shells, peacock feather, onion, garlic et etc are done n dusted.. they don’t work!!!

If there is any real chemical based solution for getting “rid” of lizards permanently, I will be indebted.

Let some higher secondary kids know about the cockroach situation. Couple of decades back, I had to visit more than 10 neighborhood homes to catch cockroaches, for dissecting in lab.

For catching or shooing away the lizards, turn on the AC , set the temperature to the lowest, and it will get stuck on the wall. Then you can pick it and release it outside.

This one time, one lizard got stuck on ceiling and while I was sleeping, it fell on to my bed and we slept together. Does that mean I am virgin no more? flushed

On the later part of your comment, it depends if the lizard is of opposite se*, although not necessarily be opposite these days

I believe the place is not that infested to go for professional care, home remedies or diy(spray, gel) stuff should work for now. Moreover taking extra when moving to new place.
