Couple of words regarding Offers and Sales

Being a 90s kid, I have experienced the digital revolution in India. I have missed those dial up days. I have missed BSNL broadband days too. My journey started in 2005, when my parents got a new CDMA phone. Then in 2008, my parents got themselves a GSM phone with WAP capabilities. Then I got my phone in 2009 with EDGE and Tata Docomo’s 65 rupee/month plan finally allowed me to experience real internet and I could connect my 1/2 year old laptop to it. Those were good and adventurous days. I tinkered with the phone’s ports and modem settings (AT+CGDCONT settings) to allow it to connect with my laptop. So, naturally you can understand that I did not know about internet banking, debit card, credit card etc until 2011/2012. I had my first bank account with Union bank of India in 2011. It took many days before I could venture into the world online transactions because family did not buy into that idea.

I have seen 500 rupees off eBay coupons. I have used it myself and almost ordered a pendrive. Then I went on explain it to my friends in college. By the time I could order something for myself the coupon was expired. 😥😥😥 It was a big sob day for me. I blamed myself for not activating online transaction on my UBI Mastercard. Yes, they used to give everyone a Mastercard by default. Even SBI used to give Mastercards. Then I have enjoyed Soan Papdis, bags for my sister, rotten onion (🐒🐒🐒 onion price was skyrocketing in 2012. I found a deal in eBay. But delivered them in rotten condition. I had to pay only 5 rupees.) Smart phone scene was made popular in 2009 era thanks to that HTC phone. Check this link https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/hardw.... Sony Ericsson also launched a lot of Xperia handsets. People bought them like crazy. I could never afford them. I could never afford the Nokia 6600 in the early 2000s either. Samsung brought its Galaxy Young series, which revolutionized the budget Smartphone consumers. And like any shrewd Biz people they also brought in their Bada phones. Haha. Bada failed. In between 2012-2014 Freecharge was a big deal. They used to give 50 for 50 coupons on mobile recharges. They even gave McDonald French Fries codes with recharges in 2014. Moto G 1st and 2nd gen allowed budget users to experience the Smartphone scene. And Whatsapp replaced the cheap SMS packs distributed by telcos at that time. Aircel made us experience the fast internet in the form of 3G to common people. Then we saw attempts to make sites limited to phone app by top companies like Myntra. Xiaomi Redmi 1S flash sale on Flipkart leaves customers angry Source: https://www.livemint.com/Consumer/fCqu2NqcMIAPq... Does anyone remember this?

All I am trying to say is offers and sales will come and go. Those who were able to buy that Redmi 1S at 1 rupees have already moved on with better handsets. eBay has sold its India biz. Aircel is defunct. Lenovo has bought US legend Motorola. Compaq is gone. Brick and Mortar showrooms are struggling. And those who missed out those deals are living a normal life. 🙂 So, if anyone can’t avail any cashback offers because lack of credit cards etc should not feel sad or demotivated. Sales will come and go. And things bought from ‘em, will last with us for 1-2 years. Remember long Jio queues? Now, people are porting out from Jio. That’s life. Being able to earn a decent income should be at top most priorities of every youngsters. I wont deny, I have wasted some time with these things. And these are mere opinions only. You might not agree with me, that’s alright. 🙂

Very Good post bhai. plus1 It’s fine to enjoy deals & offers. But 2 most important things which you have correctly mentioned. We should not feel any bad if we missed out on any offer/deal. Kyonki 1 deal jayegi 10 or aayegi.

Second very most important thing which you have mentioned :-

Being able to earn a decent income should be at top most priorities of everyone – Golden words.

I made my first online transaction using a credit card that too on a foreign site back in 2007 because the only debit cards I had were not capable of doing even domestic online transactions at that time let alone foreign online transactions. I still remember the dollar rupee conversion rate of 1 dollar being Rs.45 smile

Ahh. I wish I knew you back then. I would have asked you the mechanism behind the card you operate. I would read articles on credit/debit cards. I did not understand most of them though. 😂 They looked sooo attractive though.

Can relate with those early CDMA and GSM phones in India. Some relative gave my father a LG Reliance partnered CDMA which he got as a freebie for buying a Bajaj Bike. Looks like this.
Incoming and outgoing was costly back then. As far as I remember it used to be like 150 Talktime for Rs.300 voucher. As a kid I used to collect those recharge scratch cards. Then later on state govt offices started issuing airtel postpaid sims and motorola mobiles. It looked exactly like this.
My father got one and one day I played with all those settings like PIN FDN PIN2 PUK PUK2 codes and got the sim blocked. When questioned I swore that I never touched his mobile. 🤫 Father had to travel to head office to get it replaced. That’s how I fully understood what those codes are for. Even present day sims have those settings.
Played a lot with Hellotunes and my father’s colleagues used to ask him why they were hearing different songs daily instead of ring. Father complained to mother that some songs were item numbers and he was embarrassed. Mother scolded me and ordered to remove hellotunes. joy

For me my nokia 7210 supernova was love and docomo was savior in those days.. Those message packs.. 160by2, way2sms, downloading songs from songs.pk.. Docomo free internet trick, going to cyber cafe for bulk downloads and playing bounce and gameloft games on my phone.. No knowledge of stock market, freelancing or anything.. Only finding hacks to get free sms, internet and calls were only the fad for me.. Had I been involved in programming, I would have been in an product based company.. Well I have enjoyed a lot

This article reminded me of days when father got his first CC around 2008-9 but never used it. There was a deal on Moto G for 10% cashback on Axis CC. Brother bought the phone and enquired with customer care that cashback will be credited after 90 days. On 91th day I checked bank account statement and there was no cashback. Called CC, he said, He will check and update about status in 2 days. Called again after 2 days but they kept on transferring calls. After 1 month 1 executive informed that it has already been settled. I checked bank statement again but nothing. (I thought that this CC is linked to savings account as it used to auto debit monthly Statement from account, so maybe cashback will be credited to account). I was fuming that he gave wrong information about cashback credit, and was thinking of complaining, which I actually did but then I was informed that check your CC statement, there it is settled. sweat_smile

So true. Last year, I felt sad for missing Firestick @ 1000rs. Now I got it @ 179rs

Things are changings like the speed of data transfer
We are now addicted to new production from clothes, electronics to news, entertainment
The joy of reminiscence has been curtailed by the consumption driven market
We just forget all we did in the previous week
Now we are tuned to forget even faster
An artificail hollowness is created which has driven us to fill the void with momentous thrills and other dopamne inducing activities
