COVID is increasing rapidly and people are in fear and panic mode.
A lot of unnecessary medicines are being prescribed. There is shortage of those medicines and people are running to get them. Many must have also stock-piled them.
I just want to tell you that no medicine has any proven role in mild cases of COVID.
If you have symptoms like fever/ bodyache/ cough or history of recent contact with a COVID positive patient, just get yourself tested.
For mild symptoms you just need
1. Paracetamol (for fever, bodyache)
2. Warm saline gargles or Cough syrup ( for cough. sore throat)
3. Adequate fluids
4. Rest
5. Strict isolation
6. Temperature and oxygen saturation monitoring.
7. NO OTHER MEDICINE
If saturation goes below 94% or there is breathlessness or the symptoms are getting worse, you should consult your doctor. Hospitalisation may be required in such situations.
If you have risk factors (see image), be more vigilant and stay in touch with your doctor. You still don’t need Fabiflu or Ivermectin or any such thing.
Pronation (lying down on your belly) is very helpful in improving the air flow to the back part of lungs and improving the oxygen saturation. It can be done for 20-30 mins several times a day.
Remember, PREVENTION by taking all precautions is still your best chance.
Stay safe, stay healthy
NOTE – this is just for guidance and not the consultation.
UPDATING THE POST WITH SOME REFERENCES
Unfortunately, many well qualified doctors are prescribing medicines like Fabiflu, Ivermectin, Doxycycline, Azithromicin, etc. and rampantly advising CT scans and other blood tests.
None of these medicines have any proven role in COVID management. Antibiotics like Doxycycline and Azithromicin may be required in some specific cases but should not be prescribed routinely for all patients.
Similarly, CT scan and advanced blood tests maybe required in some patients with moderate to severe disease but NOT to be advised routinely in all cases.
I’m a general physician. The information in this post is based on authenticated and verified information from sources like WHO, CDC, AIIMS and MGIMS and in consultation with many senior doctor colleagues.
If you think this is not correct, please read from the websites of the sources mentioned above and you will know.
I have attached images for reference.
First two are from MGIMS, Wardha – One of the pioneer medical institute.
Third – AIIMS protocol. It has Ivermectin for severe cases but it will be removed soon in next update.
Fourth – Risk factors
Fifth – About ivermectin
The protocol mentions hospitalisation for moderate cases but most of the moderate cases can be managed at home with proper monitoring and oxygen support if required.
Don’t panic for hospital beds unless advised by your consulting doctor.

Advice by Experienced AIIMS trained doctors!!
I am a doctor and this is a fair enough compilation
For the queries we all normally have.
Looking at overall confusion and panic in the society, and even doctors, we a group of AIIMS-trained doctors have tried to summerise what seems reasonable.
Consensus guidance of AIIMS-trained specialists (AIMS2Health.com) on treatment of COVID 19
Q-1: I am running fever for three days, should I go for RT-PCR/Rapid Antigen Test/CBNAAT?
In the current situation ( April 2021), it is presumed you have Covid 19 infection. Treat accordingly. If available, get RT-PCR test done for COVID 19. Only if RT-PCR test facility is not there, Rapid Antigen Test or CBNAAT may be done.
Q-2: I am running fever for 3 days, and my RT-PCR result for COVID 19 is positive. What all should I do? Which tests and what medicine should I take?
(A) General Care:
1. Strict isolation at home. All positive patients in the same house do not have to remain in different rooms.
2. Monitor your temperature six hourly. If temperature rises above 101, take tab
paracetamol 650mg.
3. Monitoring blood oxygen level by pulse oximeter, 6 hourly. If reading 94% or higher, nothing to worry. If reading drops <94%, start deep breathing exercises (Pranayam). Lie on your tummy (not on your back) for as long as you can; this is likely to improve your oxygen level. If oxygen level not getting better, see if you can do a six-minute walk test(see below).* Please note that the period in which oxygen level may fall is generally from day 5 to day 11 from the date of onset of first symptom. If lying in prone position or six minute does not improve level above 94%, then you need to see a doctor, and you may need supplemental oxygen.
4. Normal diet (Patient with comorbidities need to continue to follow illness specific dietary restrictions).
5. Drink sufficient fluids (Patient with comorbidities need to adjust fluid intake as needs to be for each specific comorbidity).
(B) Blood Tests:
Normally no blood test is needed in mild cases. In those with severe symptoms (high fever, severe diarrhoea, severe fatigue etc.) but good oxygen levels, the following tests may be done (fasting) as baseline:
(a) CBC, (b) CRP, © LFT.
© Treatment:
There is no specific treatment for COVID 19 infection. Only, treatment for relief of symptoms is needed.
(a) For fever/body pains/headache: Paracetamol SOS.
(b) Sore throat: warm saline gargles.
© Throat irritation, sneezing or running nose: Tab Cetirizine (Zyrtec): One tab once a day
(d) Dry Cough: Tab Montair LC; one tab per day
(e) Wet Cough (with phlegm/sputum): Bro-Zedex Syrup, 1 or 2, teaspoons thrice daily.
(f) Loose motions:
• Take Electral Oral Rehydration Powder, as many times as needed;
• In severe diarrhoea, Tab Imodium 2 mg as needed.
• Also take Curd, at-least once a day.
(g) General immunity boosters:
a. Tab Zinc 50 mg (Tab Zinconia) for 15 days.
E. Those with co-morbidities such as obesity, diabetes, high BP, asthma, kidney disease, smokers, chronic chest diseases, history of lung tuberculosis, etc):
Continue all medicines already being taken for chronic illnesses like high BP, diabetes, thyroid illnesses, asthma, cancer, arthritis, etc. You have to go by the advise of your treating doctor. You may be advised to do the following tests by your doctor -: Serum Ferritin, LDH, D-Dimer, Interleukin 6.
Just to repeat, those above 70, and those with diabetes and other co-morbidities, go as per your doctor’s advise.
F. Need for HRCT chest: Those with normal (>94) oxygen level do not need HRCT of the chest. It is to be done only if oxygen consistently remains below 94, or there is severe breathlessness. CT score being done these days may have interpretation issues, and hence do not get alarmed. Abnormal blood tests alone is NOT a reason to do CT.
G. Note:
(A). Please do not give/take Fabiflu (Favipiravir) Doxycycline, Ivermectin or Azithromycin. None of these has any proven role. These may harm the patient as all medicines have side effects. Most common side effects of most drugs are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loose motions.
(B). Steroids (Medrol/Dexona) are prohibited and dangerous for those having normal oximeter reading. Only those who need more than 3L/min supplemental oxygen support should receive a short course for five days. Early start of steroids (practiced by some) in our opinion, can make the condition worse.
©. Neither Inj Remdesivir nor convalescent plasma is of proven value. So do not worry too much if these cannot be arranged. Neither of these will change the final outcome.
(D). Much more important than blood tests or HRCT findings is the oxygen saturation level as seen in the finger oximeter. This is the key to management of Covid 19.
*Disclaimer: This is a simplified and basic guidance for patients and their family doctors. It is based on consensus of five AIIMS-trained specialists with over 40 years of practical experience of each. Every patient should take treatment for COVID 19 as per the instructions of a competent doctor.
- How to measure oxygen level: Put the oximeter on right (dominant) hand’s middle finger. First, cross check functioning of the finger oximeter by test readings on other members of the family/caregiver. Check both at rest and after walking around the room for six minutes. Those who cannot walk for six minutes should try and walk for three minutes at-least.
- Sort By
1. Everybody doesn’t knows flu treatment
2. Isolation is not required in flu
3. The unnecessary medicines being prescribed for COVID were not prescribed for flu.
4. Antibiotics will be required if there is bacterial infection, not just in every case.
5. Wearing mask doesn’t causes bacterial infection unless you keep using a dirty mask.
6. if we believe your mask theory, every person wearing mask should take antibiotics.
Antibiotic kaunsi khaani hai? Hospitals are all fucked up. They are more into making money out of prevalent mismanagement everywhere instead of helping.
Fever is 98-99
SPO2 is 97
Pulse 97
What are ideal reading?
No antibiotic required from what you told.
Just follow things advised in main post.
You’re in ideal condition already.
How to get tested while isolation?
Home collection or go to the centre with proper mask and maintaining safe distance from others
Very useful information bro.
+VU & KG (pending)
Monitor your o2 lvls and don’t let the fever go above 100. Nobody is a doc here so don’t follow random user advice. If possible, consult a doc. I know situation is bad and docs are super busy or unavailable. So writing down what was prescribed to me. Usual course:
If pain in throat/infection : antibiotics like azee 500mg (minimum 3 or maximum 5 days course) 1 tab per day
For fever: dolo 650mg/paracetamol 650mg ( sos with 6-8 hours gap).
Both above meds depends on your symptoms. If no throat infection, don’t take antibiotics.
Below two are vitamins which should be taken by all covid+ for 15 days:
1. Limcee 500mg o-o two times/day
2. Polybion CZS one time/day
This is what my doc prescribed me. Hope this helps.
Well, I’m a doctor.
FYI, COVID is a viral infection and antibiotics work against bacteria.
You SHOULD NOT take Azithromicin for sore throat or cough in COVID.
Routinely Prescribing Azithro or any antibiotic for covid mild cases is WRONG except for a few selected cases.
1st thing 1st. Just when you feel any symptom or come to know you were in touch with any positive person, rush to nearby blood lab or call at home, lal path, thyro and others come at home, check 1mg, pharmeasy etc for booking. In your tests you should, it is most compulsory thing to do and many people are dying due not following this, these tests – ESR, CRP and CBC. if any value is disturbed, sad news you are positive now. If ESR is double your age, you have critical problem, if ESR is your age, you have moderate problem if ESR is half your age you have mild problem if ESR is less than half or normal, you might require another test after 2-3 days. If CPR is 10 or low, you have controlable problem, if crp is till 26 your have mild problem, if crp is till double your age you have mild problem if you follow protocols strictly else things can become dangerous very quickly. In CBC look for platelets, lymphocytes, haemoglobin and wbc and check if all good or not. If lymphycytes is low, danger (can be any other health condition too), if platelets are low, this rings worst alarms, wbc and heamo should be fair or increase them by iron, folic acid, good diet in next few days.
Tests done report came and report is not satisfactory, by this time you should start your treatment by a) consoulting doctor over the phone or whatsapp or sms or as precaution have these medicine available start taking them as precaution (strict note – only till your rt-pcr report doesn’t arrive and/or you can’t see doc or you have very strong symptoms like fever, lost taste and smell. Later post is edited @batguy143
Remember most people are dying because they are waiting for report to come overlooking symptoms. Don’t wait, start your treatment from 1st day. You will be perfectlu fine by 7th day without any worry of you start medication and blood tests from day 1 or 2.
2ndly, wear 2 masks, a specs which needs spray cleaning every 2 hours, light and minimal cloths, good food, lots of lemon or pineapple or green vegetables in food, if possible stop tea and cold stuff, junk food for next few days, keep sanitization protocol like santize hands every couple of minutes, don’t touch your eyes, don’t take of specs out without sanitized or cleaned hands and sanitized hands before and after wearing specs, keep changing masks twice or thrice a day, keep a papar box or amazon flipkart boxes numbered and dispose used masks in them in numbering order so you don’t wear them again atleast in next 7 days so have 14 surgical masks, 14 5 layer cloth or n95 masks and 14 cloth masks only to be used while traveling, office, shopping etc. Mantra is, the virus is strictly strict adhering it’s rules, you should also adhere your rules. @cm4444 bhai please add your notes too if necessary.
Most of the things you have written are WRONG.
The whole purpose of putting up the main post is to protect people from this kind of wrong and misleading things.
For mild cases, none of the blood tests you have mentioned are required.
No role of ANY medicine that you mentioned.
Totally wrong and misleading comment.
Have these things handy as everyone told – pulse meter and oxygen meter, thermometer and oxygen cylinders (750 ml comes at 500, buy 4 atleast and return them back to shopkeeper if you don’t require) or if yiu can afford buy a oxygen concentrator which starts from 35k to 75k considering you have good 24×7 electricity supply. Monitor 4 hourly oxygen strictly, make a calender and keep writing figures. Remember your hands should be straight like hitler salute not elevated above heart nor too low below heart. Monitor spo2 for 1 minute and take average of starting 10th-15th seconds and last reading as chinese maal ki koi gurantee nahi. Very important strictly do this with asymptomatic person too i.e. spo2 monitor every 4 hour, because in 1st wave 20% approx people died in hypoxia while in this wave 35% people are losing battle to hypoxia.
On 3rd, 6th and 9th day of symptom (remember symptom and not report) do a hrct scan. Ct scan is a must if spo2 keeps falling from 3rd day. It should stay maintaine under 95 range. If it is dropping, rush to get a fabiflu 34×2 200 mg or 400mg 1 stripe. Dont rush for injections at all. Keep 1075 and any ambulance number in fast dial or quick dial mode (like save it as 1075arogya as name and 1075 as number 102ambu as name and 102 as number 112emer as name and 112 as number so these are accessed quickly wihle you search phone directory)
Have lots of lukewarm fluid, 4 time steam in a closed room which has a table fan opened on window side that is throwing air outside room not on room or exhaust fan or many windows, do yours and send other person after 1 or 2 hours, don’t take steam in public area of home openly. Wear mask at home. Use air condition if available at 25 to 30 tempreture depending upon your citys heat and not below that (ac are best ventilation so dont worry about fake whatsapp forwards that ac are dangerous) or exhaust fan which runs 24×7, opened windows 24×7. Do pranayam whenever you get time, whereever you are, just simple heavy inhale exhale exercise will do. Stop smoking, idiot and don’t drink for your and family sake, there is a reason govt is closing thekas when they are highest source of revenue generation.
Download twitter and keep tagging active netas irrespective of parties like congress youths are doing wonderful job in maharastra and karnataka, bjp youths helping best in delhi, bhagwan shri ram in up (kyonki wahan ram rajya hai aur sab ram bharose chalta hai).
Buy a steam inhailor, ventilaton fan or exhaust fan, oximeter and thermometer, available at 1mg, amazon, pharmeasy, flipkart etc etc. Dont rush to market and either spread or invite chinese bastard inside you.
For mild or asymtomatic, do a 6 min walking test compulsory at 6 am and 6 pm (or 8/9 am and 8/9 pm) in home, wearing mask, continuous walk for 6 min. Check starting, mid way at 3 min, at end of 6 minutes. If your oxygen drops by 4% or goes below 90 at anu stage, this is alarming. Do a ct scan, d dimer, crp, il6 test. As I told before 1/3rd people are losing battle due to hypoxia. They are feeling wonderful till day 6-7-8 and suddenly oxygen drops on 9-10-11 days and then rush for beds, oxygen and injection starts.
Save your life and save others too. Dont be a jackass and roam freely without protection. If above 45, get vaccinated. Do crp, cbc and d dimer test (will cost roughly around 1000 bucks, in home facility by lal path, thyro etc available) before vaccination so if these is clotting, inflammation or low platelates in body, you can control them 1st and then go for jab.
Keep kapoor handy, go to any shop near temple and buy atleast 15-20 small sugar cube sized packets, don’t just buy all and hoard, inhale kappor if feeling breathless or low oxygen. Have ajwain in home for steam inhalation. Buy kalmegh syrup from amazon/flipkart, patanjali swasari vati and kanthamrit, coronil tablets (not kit), himalaya bresol and himalaya septilin tablets (60 a bottle for approx 120 on pharmeasy, 100 after discount) buy both 3 atleast, take 2 for 1st month and reduce to 1 from next month. Stop bresol after 4-5 months. Buy ashwaganda and giloy as preventive measure.
Also, chill. Don’t screw your mind thinking about kya hoga. Watch youtube, watch netflix, watch sony liv, download tvf app and watch everything available there. Stop reading newspaper, stop watching news channels.
Also remember where your neta were while someone at your home, in family, your relative or you were fighting this battle alone. Come over bhakti and chamchagriri, think about your being a dead body because of these neats didn’t do anything in 16 months and counting.
Stay happy, stay positive :p !
THE MAIN POST HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH SOME REFERENCES.
PLEASE Check.
Thanks for your efforts and time Doc
God bless
@batguy143 bro very nice share. Kudos to efforts. Can u throw more light on Ivermectin.
Can it be taken as a preventive measure if u dont even have any symptoms?
Thank you very much!
As mentioned very clearly, Ivermectin has no proven role in COVID, be it prevention or treatment.
Only take it if you have been prescribed it for anything other than COVID.
@batguy143 I contracted Covid+ and hv these values. Its been 10 days but still hv 99 fever randomly with weakness. No breathing issues.
Medicines prescribed:-
Doxy (for 5 days)
Ivermectin (for 5 days)
Fabiflu 400mg for 13 days (2 tablets twice daily)
Calpol
My question is should I continue taking all the above medicines still? Pls let me know.
5 din to kha lo bhaiya, inki sunna bhi to 5 din ke baad. Aur zinc 50 ki khurakh subah shaam jaroor add kar liyo.
With regards to medicine – Do as your doctor says or take second opinion from another doctor. Don’t discontinue medicines after seeking opinion on net.
Some people are having mild infection whereas others are suffering from severe complications. One needs all help to curtail the infection whether it’s in form of medicines or innate immunity of that individual. Even mundane things like steam inhalation, drinking lukewarm water, gargle & rest may help. This is an evolving medical scenario – studies & trials are continuously being conducted. Vitamin D deficiency was said to be a factor in early research now a study shows sedentary lifestyle is a risk factor for serious complications – https://m.businesstoday.in/lite/story/coronavir...
https://www.forbes.com/sites/mishagajewski/2021...
The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that there is still no evidence to indicate that Remdesivir is beneficial in treating hospitalised coronavirus patients.
https://m.businesstoday.in/lite/story/remdesivi...
Despite WHO’s above recommendation Remdesivir is used widely – so much so there is an acute shortage. I repeat this is an evolving situation & nothing is set in stone.
Right. Latest data from trials show no significant role of Remdesivir in reducing mortality. It MAY just shorten the hospital stay for 2-3 days. The information is based on multiple RCTs done in India and in other countries.
The MGIMS protocol I shared in the main post mentions that too and other relevant information.
Lack of physical activity can cause obesity and other things.
Obesity, diabetes and heart diseases have been shown to have significantly increased the chances of getting infected as well as increased severity of infection and mortality in COVID.
Lying down upside down helps in improving oxygenation and it’s a good thing to do.
But if lying on back or laying back on recliner could smash the lungs (even during infection), I don’t thing most of the people still have had any lungs!
A lot of wrong information in that post. Just telling .
Useful information
Thank you!
Favipiravir ( Fabiflu) has no role in COVID treatment. This is a statement from Dr. Randeep Guleria.
Another way to monitor yourself is by checking oxygen saturation at rest and then checking again after doing a normal walk (inside your room only) for 5-6 minutes. If the saturation drops significantly or you feel breathing difficulty, consult your doctor.
I have done all these exercises.
These are very helpful and quite easy to do.
@batguy143 here is a very very special news for you
https://www.icmr.gov.in/pdf/covid/techdoc/COVID...
ICMR has approved using IVERMECTIN on AIIMS guidelines.
Good that it brought so much joy for you!
You are most welcome to take it and recommend it to your known ones.
I have successfully treated all my patients without any of these medicines or the unnecessary tests and they are all doing great.
I hope you have also read the heading of that column.
Take care. Stay healthy!
You main post and replies are very informative and gives idea why we should not use antibiotics for covid.
I get cold regularly twice or thrice every year. If it is severe, I use levocet. I believe I am allergic to cold/flu.
For regular cold/flu (not severe), my doctor suggested few years ago,
Sinarest tablets 2/daily + Benadryl liquid
Paracetmal tablets (for fever 3/daily)
Azithral 500 1/daily (If pain in throat)
Can I use the above combination, If I have mild cold/flu symptoms at the current covid times?
thank you!
Take Paracetamol 650 sos
Sinarest also has paracetamol so don’t take both of them together….take either of them
Azithral is not required
You can also do warm saline gargles and steam.
Jalneti is also very helpful in these symptoms
@batguy143 Should paracetamol be used if have fever ranging from 99-100 in covid case.
Edit – Or should be used only if fever goes beyond 100
You can use paracetamol if fever or bodyache or headache.
But don’t overuse…it just treats the symptoms, not the disease.
better to take after meals
If temp below 100 and u feel comfortable, no need….but if uncomfortable with bodyaches, etc. , you can take it

Why not just say Flu Treatment Protocol..
Also antibiotics since you can easily get a lung infection and pneumonia.. And right now in hot and humid climates, a bacterial infection is mainly caused by wearing masks and sweating.
