Credit card for fuel txns

You can try fuel credit cards offered by various banks in partnership with oil companies. To name a few Axis IOCL, BoB HPCL, SBI BPCL, ICICI HPCL etc. Go for fuel ccs only if the petrol station of your card is nearby. Many users are complaining about the non receipt of reward points of their fuel credit cards so choose accordingly. Hope this helps!

I've been using AXIS IOCL Rupay since the last few months. If you directly use it at the POS, they'll still charge you the fuel surcharge for small transactions (below 300 I guess). Better option - like it to any UPI app and pay using the credit card via UPI. You'll get 20 reward points per 100 spent in your account, which are equivalent to ₹5. So effectively, you'll get 5% on fuel transactions.

I'm talking about the AXIS BANK INDIAN OIL CREDIT CARD. You'll either get it free for lifetime, or pay a joining fee of 500 and spend 50k in a year, which is fine since you will get 250 back on first fuel transaction (so the effective joining fee would be 250), and spending 50k in a year won't be a problem either. I use this for almost every merchant UPI transaction. Sure there are merchants who don't accept credit card over UPI but trust me, this will cover more than 90% of your UPI transactions.

Coming back to the point, I've been using it with Paytm UPI and it gives 20 EDGE Reward points (which effectively transcaltes to ₹5) at IOCL petrol pumps. It usually arrives in your account in 2-3 days, but I would still recommend to first make a small transaction if you're filling up at an IOCL station for the first time. Also, in one particular scenario, it is also giving me the same reward at an HP petrol pump as well. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or has something related to the MCC codes. So just be a little cautious during the first transaction at a new pump.

Also, avoid using directly at the POS machine at pump, all that math for the fuel surcharge waiver is just not worth it.

Another tip - if you use Paytm, then search for IOCL XTAREWARDS within the app where you will earn some very small percentage as well. Or if you use CRD UPI, it is only player left in the market which still gives monetary cashback on 1-2 UPI transactions per day.

Buy fastag from icici or idfc. Use fastag to pay for fuels. I have been using the HP Pay app on HP petrol pumps without any issues.

I usually wait for offers on park+ and recharge fastag. I keep 6k-7k in the buffer.

On an avg, I get a 10% discount.
