I'm having a hard time for the last one year... have greater kolkata pincode , good credit scores, 10+yrs of credit history yet nothing seems to work... Maybe the issue is that I don't have a registered business entity (WFH freelance+stock investor) and office address is same a home address...

They hit my cibil, show me eligibility for good card variants, do VKYC, then physical verification, demand more docs and information. Then finally through rejection sms / email.
Every piece of information and documents provided by me are genuine and authentic. I apply as self employed person.
Should I now give up and stop new application. Tata new plus is provisionally approved for me but after so many in a row rejection i am afraid to apply.

Having a physically verifiable business address different from home address too?

also have doubt if they give, it will be rejected as i do not have saving account with hdfc.

SCB Ultimate, AU, SBI cashback & Axis Magnus rejected in last 3-4 months. AU especially rejected the card immediately after mentioning self-employed though it was showing as pre-approved.
Having said that, Neu Infinity was approved recently but do note that i hold HDFC Moneyback and Classic savings account for past 10 years.

No bro. I am a blogger so office address is same as home address and because of that and self-employed combination, I have had my fair share of struggles getting credit cards. In today's age when one can work and earn from home if you are into online content creation, banks should really relax this rule about having an office address different from home address. As long as our CIBIL is good, on-time payment record is clean and ITR is decent, banks should be more liberal. Oh well, I still haven't managed to secure some banks' credit cards because of this bank policy.
Certain banks like SBI which have already given me pre-approved are still demanding business address proof again for their higher variant cards like SBI cashback (₹999 fee) yet once they offered me the paid SBI Pulse card (₹1500 fee, the one that gives free gym sessions per month) at the branch pre-approved (but I didn't take it because there was no eligible gym nearby). Banks have very weird rules and policies for self-employed people.

Mostly PSU banks wanted my ITR. It's above 5L.
• SimplyCLICK LTF (1.7L) (preapproved based on savings account+FDs+SBI mutual funds), LTF because I closed it after they failed to fulfil offer and retention team re-activated it
• ICICI APay LTF (1.2L) - based on CIBIL and Amazon spends but they asked if I used any other CC and its limit, sent SimplyCLICK limit proof (statement), applied online, no prior relationship with ICICI
• ICICI Platinum LTF (1.2L shared) - via Expressions trick
• HDFC Business MoneyBack LTF (1.9L) - preapproved based on savings account + FDs (Classic Banking)
• HDFC NeuPlus (1.9L - shared) - FYF offer, approved based on existing HDFC CC limit? and Experian, applied via Tata Neu app
• OneCard by South Indian Bank LTF (1.4L) - CIBIL, applied via OneCard app
• RBL SaveMax LTF (1L) (BankBazaar - multiple credit bureau scores), applied via BankBazaar app
• RBL Duet LTF (1L shared) (PaisaBazaar - multiple credit bureau scores), applied via PaisaBazaar app
• BOB Select LTF (25K) (CIBIL, ITR), applied online
• IDFC First WOW! LTF (30K) (got invite immediately after savings account but it is secured anyway, this card isn't available as unsecured at all and the unsecured IDFC cards except IDFC Private don't have 0% forex!), applied online via net banking
• PNB RuPay Platinum LTF (50K) (just do 1 transaction per quarter), (CIBIL, 2 years ITR), applied online
• Yes Bank FinBooster LTF (50K) (BankBazaar, CIBIL, or multiple credit bureau scores), applied via BankBazaar app. Now getting pre-approved LTF offers for higher variant Yes Bank cards thanks to savings account
• Kotak Zen Signature LTF (1.75L) (TRV/NRV with bank, CIBIL, applied through branch)
• Axis MyZone LTF (CRIF, via Cashkaro app)
Past rejections whose CCs I later got - HDFC, Yes Bank and Kotak. Others I got on first attempt.
Still on the quest for IndusInd, AU, AmEx, HSBC, SC, Federal and better/more premium variants of existing bank cards. IndusInd rejected I am 99% sure for home/office address issue despite having Exclusive (highest variant) account with them. AU also same reason+self employed combo I feel although they never reveal. Never applied yet for foreign bank cards. Federal declined for unknown reason after taking ITR+bank statements of 4 private banks+CIBIL hard enquiry (they're a third class bank basically).
I do have some active and closed "loans" from BPNL (Pay Later) services too in my credit history:
Amazon Pay Later (Closed), Flipkart Pay Later (Closed), Slice/Quadrillion Finance (Closed), LazyPay (Closed), MobiKwik ZIP (Closed), Paytm Postpaid Mini (Closed), Uni (Active), Freecharge Pay Later (Active), Ola Money PostPaid (Active).
CIBIL and Equifax usually always above 760, Experian always above 800, CRIF above 600. It also helps a lot to have a savings account with the bank, whether it's a public sector bank or private. Although avoid opening Axis Bank account.
demerius2020 wrote:Yes you must be right, as hdfc agent told me about this. Hdfc gives credit card on the basis of existing credit card limit.take it for even FYF/some voucher offer , and then when complete 1 year ask for LTF or cancel

1. Apply for a c ard that requires ITR, Income proof.
2.Apply through paisabazar, bankbazar, cashkaro to get approved.
3.For au, hdfc open bank account with them.
Just off the topic, I want to know why few bnpl accounts you are still using, like uni, freecharge, ola money.

I am also on the same boat

I think it is not releated to chargeable or LTF , they will also reject for self employed. If someone first rejected as ltf and then approved as fyf please share.

Because they give me (or gave in the past) some solid offers and cashbacks. The end goal is to save money, not secure credit cards, and whatever saves me money I use that. Using BNPL never had any impact on my credit scores - it's high as ever because my utilization was low and repayments always on time. I am still hanging on to Uni because they announced plans to launch a proper credit card in partnership with SBM Bank and if it's an unsecured credit card, they are likely to give it to their existing customers first. Freecharge will regularly gives cashback via various offers - on Tata 1 mg, McDonalds, utility bill payments. Ola Money too in combination with Magicpin. When some day, they give little value, I will close these credit lines.

I understand you are getting benefits then it's good to have.
stoptomove wrote:Sure they report. I can see them in my credit reports from Experian, CIBIL. But they did not impact the score negatively. Uni's loan showed up as a single loan for me. Not a new loan per transaction (I used it almost every month when it was giving flat ₹150 cashback).
These credit lines report to credit bureaus. Uni was reporting per transaction as single loan.

Bhai You are right, But Location play important roles for card application approval...When I was self employed & Live rural area....They did hard CIBIL enquiry, Physical verification and last rejected my application & demanding minimum 5L ITR, I always thought "Self Employee Hona Kya Gunah H"🤔 Now I am living Jaipur & salaried Person & Got 9 Cards In 3 months..... Without any physical verification, income Documents....just did VKYC, applied as salaried person.....so try to apply as salaried person, give metro city addres (Relative address).

Genuine question: If you apply as salaried and they ask for salary slip, what do you do? Give up the application? Next time if you apply again, the bank doesn't ask how your salaried application became self-employed? Somehow it doesn't feel right to me to furnish incorrect information. Also doesn't our CIBIL have employment/occupation category: self-employed if we've gotten CCs in the past? So just switching over to salaried in the application is possible?

Bro I did it only getting Amazon ICICI CC (First CC) but I choosen as>Salaried Then> Self Employed.... now I'm salaried person & Applied for 8 credit cards but they didn't do any physical or ask salary slips..... Bob mentioned 25,00,00,00,00 Annual income at CIBIL profile...but even indusind Rejected my application due to different address in aadhar card....🤔

Self employed definitely works bro. I am self-employed and still consider myself a credit card newbie because almost all my cards are entry-level.
I started in Jan 2022 with my first CC SimplyCLICK. But managed to get 14 CCs in 13 months - SimplyCLICK, ICICI Amazon Pay, ICICI Platinum, HDFC Business MoneyBack, HDFC Tata Neu Plus, OneCard by South Indian Bank, RBL SaveMax, RBL Duet, BOB Select, IDFC First WOW! (ok this one is secured, got it for 0% forex) 😁, PNB RuPay Platinum, Yes Bank FinBooster, Kotak Zen Signature, and Axis MyZone. All are LTF except Tata Neu Plus. SBI SimplyCLICK was paid until this year when due to a blunder from them, I closed it and they re-activated it LTF. They're not premium or high-end but I got them mainly for the monthly discounts. Once I get from all banks, I will slowly upgrade them to premium ones.
What works - apply patiently, don't be disappointed by rejections - banks will approve if you show them ITR + good CIBIL, open savings accounts wherever pre-approved ones come easily. PM me if you want more details.
Rather than the reward points one, I prefer cashback or flat discount ones or where reward points are automatically converted into cashback without any charges or minimum point redemption rules. Reward point cards are a bit time-consuming to keep track of, and when those points expire, they sort of force us to spend more in shorter time period to redeem those points, so I avoid those or use the reward points cards mainly for the flat discounts that have around festive occasions.

@stoptomove
Self-employed is not the issue, something else (you got to figure it out what it is). Apart from one or two credit card issuers, no one (+ TataNeu Plus) is demanding income documents these days (CIBIL/Experian score + Existing credit relationships / limit alone being deciding factors)
