While I don't think Elon has good intentions, I get the point. If you fund something to be open source with a ton of money and it suddenly turns closed source the moment it makes a profit, that makes little sense. That's not what you funded.
He has enough money, he is doing a power play to slow them down so he can have a chance to come up top.

I earlier read he had no relation with the Co. after stepping down from board long back.
He donated some money. He doesn't hold a stake. He has a problem with Microsoft making money with them but not with him. If he wins, the loss will be for Microsoft only. Still, he won't be able to make money with OpenAI.
He'll start his own AI company. It's just power game/jealousy.
I am reading the new book by Isaacson on Musk - almost half-way through. He's absolutely crazy. I hold the opinion that Morgan Housel holds - some people are built that way. What he did with Tesla and SpaceX was impossible. But he delivered. I don't read news at all - they give false sense of information. You need to dig deeper to make sense of something and its good to have no or little opinion.
By reading the book you'll understand that Musk has different sense towards risk. Why he does what he does and how he does things are entirely mental and people around him mostly freak out. Read Morgan's article 'Wild Minds' on why such people come in packages. But it is difficult for us to accept packages. Our minds are not built that way.
here are my two cents, There are and there always will be hypocrites in the corporate world especially the top companies, and as for open source this and that, anyone knows about wordpress? google made it? or Facebook? or perhaps musk melon? the answer is neither. There will always be someone thinking about greater good and guess they won't be a part of any corporation. This lawsuit against openAI is nothing just a media campaign for Mr Melon.
Elon is not right always but I think in this case he is right to sue them. And anywhere there's the new Microsoft involved, there's got to be a lot of shady, illegal and/or morally unethical stuff happening. Microsoft is shit and needs extremely heavy regulation from the EU, US and Indian Govts to "behave".
