Going for a short outdoor trip. Looking to capture some great scenic photos and portraits. Dont have a good camera smartphone.

Unless post production work is really required o the videos, photos
somehow arranging even a spare cameraphone might work (instead of renting the DSLR).
If you are getting to borrow someone's for free (as a favour) then by all means take the DSLR.
