Give a written complaint to the branch manager regarding this incident, the escalation matrix is mostly posted at every branch. (Ask them for the complaint number and take acknowledgement on the duplicate copy with the Branch and Manager's stamp and sign.)
Mention them to safeguard the CCTV footage of the incident time to make your case more strong in future if no action is taken by the manager.

BTW in case of no smartphone or PC, SBI has the option to deliver account balance, mini statement etc. via SMS after giving a missed call so there's not much requirement, if any, of updating the passbook. Unnecessary waste of time and effort. I have still the one issued by State Bank of Mysore which was last updated 11 years ago.
Complaint to the branch manager, it's clerk mistake. Generally directions from bank are to help senior citizens. No point in complaining at RBI ombudsman.

Mera to sbi ka upi hi disable kar diya. Online enable kaise hoga..
Online there's option to disable UPI. Nothing about re-enabling! Contact SBI customer service. Their Twitter presence is also very slow. Many a times responded after a few days gap.

Samjhte kya hain apne aap ko iss bank mein kaam krne wale..worker toh bas worker hi Hove hai ...inko job security cheeno pehle..tab dekhna private employees ki tarah kaam krte nazar aayenge..senior citizen ko pareshan krne ki himmat kaise hui

Ye chiz har jagah hota hai. But bankers ke majburi hota hai. Bujurg log bahut harass karte hain kabhi kabhi. Wahi dikkat hai.
Hamare yahan bhi ek bank branch mein ek respected senior woman hain..jo FD banati hain ..wo bhi bahut frustrate hoke kaam krti hain ..jab bhi my senior citizen father fd banwane jate hain..toh bolti hain ..alag alag fd kyu banwate ho..ek hi banwao...itni choti/badi fd kyu banwa rahe..I think in my mind: "apne kaam Karo na auntyji please.."

Job nai jaati. Wo log bhai bahut pressure me hote hain. Aur fd jo banwate hain bujurg log, kabhi kabar manage kar nai pate hain 5-6 fd ke parchiyon ko. Isiliye bole honge. Bankers ke duty hi hai ki customer ko hassle-free chizen bataen.
raise a complaint in sbi using the RBI Ombsman portal directly.
in the form, you will get an option that if you have raised complaint in the bank, their select No and your complaint will go the bank.
Exact same thing happened with my father when he went there to open an account few years back.
He sent an scathing email to GM or MD or CEO whose email ID was available on sbi website. The Branch Manager called next day and assisted to open the account himself.
I guess this is the norm these days.

Chahe banking ho ya space sector ya defence. Sab ko privatization karna chahiye ya PPP model pe chalna chahiye.
Hum khud ko kabhi bhi democracy khul kar nahi bata sakte hai jab tak na privatization ya PPP model kar lete hai har ek sector me.

At these two SBI Branches
1.Very caring staff , in spite of heavy workload. Minimal wait time
2. Knowledgeable staff unlike the usual contractual staff at new era banks
3.You may not find Staff whose only interest is in promoting their not so good products.
No call from the branch immediately after an inward remittance requesting for FD
Just pay a visit to him outside the branch and pyar se samazao
One of the reasons why privatization of banking sector is need of the hour and just like mobile number portability, Bank account portability should be introduced ASAP.
While this passbook updation thing is utter waste of time,paper & resources and people should adapt to change and opt for e-statement/mobile banking /SMS banking.Such humiliation,disrespect & harassment of older people is completely unacceptable.Those callous unprofessional & incompetent slackers gotta understand that one day they will also have to go through that phase of life.Karma never forgets!!
Feels so disheartening after seeing so much negative comment about PSB bank employees, I am working as an officer in PSB and seriously saying i never try to make anyone wait or get frustrated because of me same goes for alteast two third of the employees but i am not denying the fact that these things above mentioned by OP doesn't happen.
It depends on many factors, it might look pretty clean from other side of the table but it does get messy sometime for us too.
I just want to advice anyone who doesn't get their job done satisfactorily please do not stick to the same counter, not just the branch manager but do visit anyone who looks senior and calmly say your issue, i can guarantee he/she will definitely help you get your job done.
Not everyone is same anywhere. Not everyone is loving their job neither everyone hating it.
