For the peace of mind go for new product. It is hit or miss with renewed item. If you are lucky and got new condition product then good and if you got defective then you will go through hell to claim seller warranty.

Yes, but I thoroughly check each and every function within Amazon's 7~10 day replacement period. After that you're on your own. Amazon will simply wash their hands off and redirect warranty claims to the seller who may not even exist or may not care to respond

Bought renewed havells table fan (This one) for around 600 less than new product. Product delivered on time. Box completely torn but fan didn't had single scratch. switched on and it doesn't work. Inside product received renewed product terms which says, if there is problem contact renewed department (forgot exact name) and they will arrange for repairs for 6 months.

still I contacted amazon and asked for return which they accepted and product was returned and refunded.

Later after some days, again same renewed fan came in stock but with different color and at lower price than earlier. So placed order again and delivered on time. This time fan worked but louvers (outer grill) didn't rotate. So now I didn't want to return as fan was working fine. Contacted havells and next day mechanic came to house and inspected and told that motor needs to be changed and asked for bill. Showed him amazon bill and said that he will be back when motor is available. After another 2 days he came and fixed the new motor. And now the fan is as good as new.

So overall I would say it is luck based what you get. I got defective both time but managed to deal with it. If there is a huge difference than you may consider renewed one and also check after sales support of same brand in your location before purchasing.

only purchase products from brands which give aftersales support so that even if seller rejects warranty band can support you.

Renewed is my first preference for electronics these days while buying from Amazon, Flipkart... earlier i used to buy renewed products from dedicated sites but they had all been shut down since Saves me good money as technology upgrades these days reduce use life of products So far all renewed purchases have been really good, 🤞

Purchased many items.

Atomberg renesa was doa, but didn't return, opted for warranty. Got company warranty and working without issues. Got for 2200.

Wd mybook 4tb @ 4k. Warranty of 3yrs.

4tb  Seagate. Approx 5k with amz cpn.

Wd 5tb passport, dead after return period, got new one as replacement from wd (spent 65 rs as courier charges )

Like that many stuff, all still working. Thanks to everyone who returned the product in perfect condition.

Now the sad part :

Bought 2tb Seagate hdd, got some 128gb or so.. Some badass changed the internal hdd.

Ive also received 2 renewed product when i purchased new product.

One was a Sony speaker 5.1, it had all signs of renewed sticker on it. And had a zebr9nics spkr inside. Luckily the return was fine.

It is recommended to never buy "refurbished/used hdd" unless you absolutely don't mind if it crashes just after you filled it up with data or don't care at all for any data you plan to put on these HDD. Also, no hdd manufacturer give you "fresh hdd" as replacement nowadays, replacement hdd are basically hdd assembled from working parts of returned faulty hdd or sometimes even repaired(if the fault was only related to pcb board & basic data storing structure like platters & head are fine).

If non Amazon brand, you will get full warranty. But Amazon products you won't. Maximum would be 6m.

1. Purchased Asus tuf a15 laptop in lockdown when prices were at peak.

Everything perfect except for one thing: one usb 2.0 didn't work. It only charged devices, but keyboards, mouse, etc never worked.

Asus helped me, but said MB will be replaced and it's not advisable so I must return it. Amazon after much debate accepted to return, but then realized it's not a big issue so kept.

2. Purchased Sony extra bass earphones: mint condition. Still working after 4 years.

3. Oneplus wireless earphones: same as above.

4. Mi wireless buds: same as above

Opt for renewed only when price difference is substantial (50% is min in my case*). In other countries, even 10/20% discount makes sense but here (Especially Appario. - Amazon) got no quality check and if its a high value product.. return/replacements can lead to account flagging/suspension. My amazon order history got about 50+ Renewed orders in the past 3 years (all of them from Appario. / Cloudtail.) and my return rate is around 10% (a lot of them from recent orders).

1. No matter if the brand warranty gets applied or not, if you're not able to test the authenticity + working condition within the warranty period or you're someone who keeps the box packaging intact for days/weeks.. don't consider Renewed (Amazon product support for Renewed post return period is too bad*)
2
. Likely faults can be easily found via recent reviews for new products (/ even renewed).. so look for them and get to know why people got dissatisfied and returned them. Most of them just return products for user-specific/silly reasons (For Ex: Bad fit, over-heating / less battery life & ..)
3.
Just like Appario. lists user-returns (new*) as renewed without any checks.. they do the same with renewed returns and this is a never ending cycle and they continue to re-list until it gets sold
4. Pay attention to the product serial number on the box and the actual product, if they're different.. initiate an immediate return ( A lot are scamming Amazon/Pickup guys)
Suggested :

Laptops : If the product is working fine and the warranty seal is intact, you hit the jackpot (Brand warranty can be availed)

Audio Products : Many speaker systems got warranty cards inside them (Especially Sony) and they're enough to avail the brand warranty (No invoice needed). About Headphones / TWS/ portable speakers .. unless they're super high end, there's no warranty activation (brands rely on the invoice date).. just make sure u use them regularly within the return period

Phones / Tablets : No means to check warranty online (at least for majority of brands) but look for MFG/Import date.. and its to easy to diagnose issues

Storage (intHDD, extHDD, SSD, Memory Cards): Its complicated with intHDDs considering amazon's shitty packaging and the drive's moving parts (even for New units*) but i would still advise getting them.. If you can test everything with the right tools, the probability of these internal drives failing is very low ( Sometimes lack of power backup / voltage fluctuations cause these drives to fail but this can be avoided ). If the delivered drive is dead, get it replaced whenever the product gets listed back but since you don't need invoice to claim warranty, u can also get them replaced via brand itself. Here's a thing about brand replacements via RMA (Int & ext), these are just like Amazon renewed products (No QnC) especially Seagate and you might even end up getting 2/3 dead drives in a row.. the good thing here, the drives either came out dead or in fully working condition and if they're working.. these are just like the new ones and the risk factor remains the same (Provided you test everything out)

All the memory cards (Regular, Micro), SSDs (SATA & NVMe) i got had zero issues but since these don't have moving parts, serious damage due to handling/shopping is less likely

Smart Watches: This is another category where majority of return reasons are linked to Smart features and battery life ( apart from inaccurate tracking - steps, heart rate). So, if you are fully aware of the product features and limitations (like no third party apps for watches running on any OS other than Tizen/WearOS, Considerably low battery life for WearOS devices).. then go get these

Apart from these.. had no/minimal issues with keyboards + mice, routers, gaming controllers

Things to avoid:

Monitors (Many times they turned out to be defective : light bleed or dead pixels and some brands got a specific limit (Min 3/5) for dead pixel count, they won't replace the screens for just 1/2 of them + if they're of high price then u got more reasons to) + Anything that can be easily dismantled to extract worthy parts. Barebone systems ( CPU,GPU ..), UPS (SMF batteries) .. not a big issue if the product got warranty stickers and if they're intact

@getready can you please elaborate the Amazon flagging process.

Ive returned a lot, esp the renewed products where either they'd were already tampered or wrong items shipped (earlier return was from a fraud )

Just wanted to know what their threshold would be, and if they would suspend the account for ever.. Including linked accounts.

Mobile Guru Mobile Guru

Its been a while since amazon suspended related accounts and for renewed products there used to "No questions asked returns" even for laptops/tablets until recently.

Investigation is red flag (Account specialists get involved at this stage). If they feel you're a genuine customer, refund will be easy for the first time (Wrong product / Missing parts.. other return/replacement reasons seem to be getting treated differently). If same instance/s repeat too soon, then "Refund/Replacement denial" and suspension is the last step. Even one of my recent renewed order (High value) turned out to be a fraud return, got refund easily after fake investigation but since then skipped quite a few high-risk orders. There's a cooling period for sure but i am not sure about the exact duration.. could be 6 months/1 year or more (Previous returns/replacements no longer get considered for account health)

Bought
Echo Dot 2nd Gen @ ₹1200 (2020)
Firestick Lite @ ₹1100 (2022)
Logitech Keyboard K230 @₹500 (2022)

All working fine, not a single scratch. Received like a new pack. Now I love buying renewed items from Amazon. It's a better choice than buying used items from OLX.
