are points better or worse than the CB?

For Regalia, 1xRP = 0.93% if redeemed for vouchers; So now previously we used to get 5%CB for redirects like Amazon/Gyftr, but now with newer value it will be 5xRP which translates to 4.65%; Hence it’s a devaluation considering these categories; However if you take different category like Hotel (5% vs 10xRP) or Flipkart (1% vs 3xRP), then it’s an enhancement; but to be honest, most of us use smartbuy mainly for amazon and gytr only, hence it’s a bad news for most of us.

Considering a retail spend of 10k on amazon.

5% CB would result in 10k*0.05 = 500 INR statement credit

With the new reward structure, it would yield 10k*4*5/150 = 1333 RPs. 4 RPs for every 150, and 5x is the factor.

In case of regalia 0.2 is the factor for redeeming rewards to statement credit,  so 1,333 gives 266INR if we go for statement credit.

@Pikachu_1

also consider that previously we were getting 1x RP +5% cashback now we get only 5x RP.
so in reality we are getting 4x RP in exchange of 5% cb.

Hi guys,

I have Diners privilege LTF with 9L limit, today only I applied for dual card (Dcb) so now soon I will receive DCB with 5L limit and privilege will remain LTF with 4L limit.

after reading this devaluation and all, I think I should continue with privilege 9L limit and should ask HDFC not to proceed with my DCB request. If the points value is so less then I don’t think it’s a good option to take DCB first year free then end up paying 10k + 1800 gst from second year. Please share your honest opinion. Thank you

my honest opinion:

take the first year free. Then cancel it.. even with the devaluation, you can get 10% with DCB.

Always remember HDFC won’t be running these offers forever.. So most users paying for HDFC cards will anyways surrender, when the card is no longer worth it. Whatever saving you do interim is your profit.

Also they might reduce the fee as well for Diners Black considering the devaluation.

Better to take first year free and then use for 11 months and then take a call if you want to pay for it or not.

thanks, I have 2 questions here 1. After 1 year downgrade will be possible to Millennia, if not what will happen to my 5L limit? Can it be transferred back to Privilege if i surrender dcb.

after 11 months If I surrender this card, this I will loose my 5L limit, that I don’t want, and not sure after 11 months they will downgrade my card to Millennia or not with same limit.

Downgrade is not possible in HDFC Bank, only u can do is cancel your card and apply new after 3 months

Guys, I’d appreciate your suggestions in this regard. I have the offer to upgrade from Regalia First to Regalia (Paid, with no joining fees, no credit limit increase). I’m still in the middle of sorting out 700+ RP-related issue with them for transactions that took place in September. So, I’d take this as a chance to reconsider if I should go with the upgrade or not, given the upcoming changes for the Regalia card.

Should I upgrade to Regalia or let go of this offer and wait for the Millennia upgrade offer in the future?

I have been using Regalia First for the past 2 years and it’s not a LTF card although I didn’t pay any renewal fees.

are you sure? Hdfc manager told me we can downgrade.

and I still have option not to take dcb as my secondary card. Shall I just cancel it now and apply for Millennia? I am not able to decide what to do? Tomorrow I will get card related verification call then they will proceed. I just don’t want to loose my 5L limit.

I guess you used net banking instead of dedicated regalia portal

2 weeks back few dimers mentioned in other threads, they got upgrade option from Regalia to Regalia first and Millennia. So this is the reason  smile

Wow. This is interesting. It means they’re officially valuing Millenia over Regalia

Earlier Regalia was supposed to be a premium cc below Diners and Infinia.

Pathetic move by HDFC

I have redeemed Regalia 24K points with 8.5K amazon GV…
Good conversion rate for Regalia to Amazon GV in regalia portal only..

If you redeem in Netbanking it would be disaster..

honestly we will love if you are right.

But the domain is of twitter. Maybe the person who tweeted that image, removed it due to hdfc pressure.
