Hi All,
Looking to buy a cycle, preferably from flipkart, because of the amex offer or even bbd.
Main purpose : fitness , planning 10-15km a day.
Little bit of shopping too

Im having a btwin 7s mtb, its quite old.

Looking for a light weight with at least front shock
Preferably 21 gears with disc brakes.

Possible to let me know which brand/make i should go with.
Budget – 20k

so? any final choices?
offline prices seem to be just as fair.
and direct inspection makes it less cumbersome as one can check upfront for any dents or damages

I always prefer offline, but im sure those aren’t fairly priced.
Ive shortlisted montra rock 3.1 or viva 5.5 (5524/5525 on Amazon) . 3.1 has Shimano altus with hyd brakes and viva 5.5 has mechanical brakes with Shimano acera fd/rd. Both aren’t available for delivery in bangalore and hence waiting.
Theses are of 15-16 kg weight class.

oh great, those look like fairly good value for money.
you are in a “rich” city and businesses might be vulture like,
but even i prefer offline to online in many cases.
and often in smaller towns, the shopkeepers try to build a relationship too.
like check this person’s experience https://www.desidime.com/forums/dost-and-dimes/... about purchasing bicycles offline.

Im almost in a remote area in bangalore and no cycle shops sell these bikes. There are bigger shops who sell almost at mrp, they need to pay salaries and rent too.

It applies to me as well,, due to COVID-19 financial crunch and planned to buy just because of additional features like disc brake and shock.
May be they are holding stock because of upcoming sales.
Viva 5.5 26 inch inch is available now, but prefer a 27. 5 er.

Im currently using btwin mybike 7s, which is 26 inch.

Did read the post, its truly heart touching. But not all are same.

Go with trek, Merida, schwinn or Cannondale

These are some of the best cycling brands world over.. They might be slightly expensive compared to a montra or Firefox but trust me the components used are of really good quality and can last for years together, the bikes are also extremely light and ergonomic compared to other brands

Depending which one to get – I highly suggest that you go to a store and try the size of the bikes, there is small, medium and large frame depending on your height

Next criteria is whether you want a mtb or hybrid bike.. Better to go with mtb since our roads are like riding on mountains but again ride both in a store first. Avoid disc brakes as they may look cool but high on maintenance

Also the online purchased bikes will need to be assembled.. So unless you are an expert I’d suggest get from a store.. Also you’ll need a few accessories like stand (yes, few of these bikes don’t come with a stand) gel seat, helmet, gloves and a pump which you definitely want to check physically before buying

Lastly, regular service is extremely important for long life of your bike.. Few of these stores charge more but offer 3 free services which is totally worth it.

Good luck and welcome to the cycling world

I really would like to go for the brands suggested, but its the finance thats stopping me.
I also prefer mtb, because of the roads, and i need it for fitness purposes.
Again regarding the stand , pump, gel seats, etc im already having these, either ill pick the stand from existing bike, i have a car pump + hand pump, a spare gel seat and bottle holder.

Ill still give a try with the brands, and see if i can get a good deal+ emi.
Firefox stravaro was one such bike which i did like apart from these.

Im stopping my visit to any store because covid cases are at its peak in bangalore.

Ya spend a little more if you can.. You’ll get very good resale value as well.. I personally owned a trek 3700 and sold it for just 20% below cost after 2 years of use and now own a schwinn

Okay. Let me find something in that range.
Does tourney /altis Derailleur really matters?

Used to see many bike brands on Amazon, flipkart. Now they have basic models only.
Flipkart is always having the hyped 27kg urban terrain. Omnitech isn’t selling anything else.

Can you please suggest a decent one at around 30k. Is it worth waiting for a ‘deal’ online or better to buy offline?

Derailleur doesn’t matter since you’ll be riding mostly on tarmac.. As long as it’s shimano you’re fine

i would probably consider this.. suggest to go offline if you have a good flagship store nearby

Unavailable in Bangalore. Looks like its because of covid.
May be ill buy a Indian brand for time being and buy a flagship bike once situation gets normal.

We have a decathlon store 5km from here. Anything that i can check there?
