Solid state drive is upgraded version of hard disk drives.SSD is way way faster and stable than a HDD.
I replaced hdd of my 10 year old laptop with ssd and there is significant improvement.for eg earlier it used to take approx 90 secodns to boot and now it boots in just 15 sec. Programs load way faster.
I am using wd green 250 GB SSD and it costed me around 2600 bucks.if your budget is high then go for wd blue.

Wd has three varients of ssd.
WD black-highest varient(very costly)
WD blue-its their mainstream ssd type(fast and affordable)
WD green-entry level ssd but performance wise I am satisfied with it.

I didn’t get your question about 2.5m…are you talking about m.2 type?

There are two type of slots for drives.
SATA and m.2
If there are both slots available in your laptop then you can run ssd and hdd together.
Statistically m.2 ssd are faster than SATA ssd.
