Whatever it is just make sure you have GTX GPU in your system which will surely serve your purpose sunglasses

You should definitely go for Desktop as performance difference is huge. Build something around Ryzen 5 5600x or Intel i5 11500. Get a compact case for easy mobility.

For laptop I’d suggest HP Omen (Ryzen 5 4600H + GTX 1660 Ti) in this price range.

Mention your laptop/desktop exact specs (current*)
Also the details for the video files you are trying to edit (codec, bitrate, resolution)
+ the software used to edit videos

Can you share your PC’s complete spec sheet if you don’t mind? Something might be slowing down your PC like HDD or slow/insufficient RAM. Even simple problems like dust can slow down your PC drastically.

Btw, I’m currently using i5 11th gen (desktop) and completely satisfied buy it’s performance.

This laptop is only good to edit 1080p low-bit rate videos .. that too with Specific video editing software like Vegas Pro or Studio Platinum
After Effects/Premiere Pro are not even worth trying on a laptop with a dual-core CPU (Highly dependent)

I think you should install a cheap sata SSD ~3k in place of your HDD. Use your HDD as external drive.

Clean your fans and get your processor repasted. See, if you’re satisfied with the performance.

Desktop – If you’re seriously into video editing
Ryzen 5 3500/3600 CPU
1650Ti
8-16GB RAM
(( 1080p video editing ))

Ryzen 5 5600X
1660/2060/3060
16-32GB RAM

(( 4K video editing ))

Consider getting an UW monitor for better workflow .. atleast in the future
Min two hard drives (three is better)
Drive 1 (SSD) – Windows (OS) + Software
Drive 2 (HDD/SDD) – Store video files
Drive 3 (HDD) – Save video files

Set media cache (Primere Pro) location to one of the above drives (minus OS drive)
_

Laptop

Ryzen 5 U CPU + integrated Vega GPU for basic 1080p editing
Ryzen 5 H CPU + 1660/2060 GPU for 4K editing

U series laptops are light weight (Better for portability)

Note : GPUs are OOS everywhere
So the prices may turn to be much higher than regular market prices

Ryzen 5 3600 is currently overpriced at ~17k

Hence, I had suggested him to go for intel i5 11500 at ~18k which performs better than Ryzen 5 3600 (both gaming and multimedia). i5 11400f is a even better deal at ~14.5k but it’s OOS everywhere. Also, 11500 has a capable iGPU so he can use it and wait for GPU prices to settle down (unlike R5 3600 which has no iGPU)

As he needs laptop, what about macbook air m1? It’s also powerful and good for editing. Also m1x is coming in June(tentatively) with 16 core GPU and 12 core Cpu.

Yes
M1 Mac is a very good option too for video editing
Also the recently launched M1 iMac (1.2L).. screen is just 24" though
