Mostly heavy discounts are on models that are old by a year or two. By then the primary costs of R&D and marketing have been recovered and a good chunk of profits has been pulled in too. Then it is basically some stock clearance happening at minimum profit. People forget that the M in MRP is for Maximum. You can very well sell below the MRP and still make a profit. How much is up to you.
