Hi everyone,

I am getting married, and I have lots of Mobile Data saved in my laptop for the  last 7-8 years (i.e - Whatsapp Chat History, whatsapp media, screenshot, lots of pictures, bank statement pdf etc)

I tried to filter out and delete old useless files but it was very time consuming and annoying to select and delete individual files, folders, pictures from 8 years of timeline.

So kindly suggest to me any simple folder lock that can also hide files within windows and wont visible without password.

My future wife might  use my laptop for web surfing or study purpose. She is very curious to use my laptop. I am not hiding anything, she knows my past, but still I don't want her to see some chat history or screenshot that can turn her off her mood.

Waiting for your replies.. pray

Just buy an external storage, encrypt it and save all your important files there. After copying, delete all the data from your laptop and connect that external storage, enter your password and access the data whenever you need it.

I would go few steps further. I don't know how much "extra sensitive" data OP has among other stuff. But I'm assuming it's not more than few hundred giga bytes. So either he can buy a large capacity SD card or a pendrive ( min. 128 GB ) or a external HDD or a 2.5" reliable SSD ( like crucial mx500) put it in a USB HDD enclosure.

> Backup all sensitive files and turn them into password protected rar or zip files. Then rename those file extensions to something else ( non media/ document) which cannot be opened on PC in regular software.
Example: .DLL .XEX .SYS

>> Hide the storage device somewhere safe, ( like hidden compartment of a drawer )

>>> If you ever get caught keep a convenient excuse prepared

You can only hide from Explore. You cannot password protect it. You need a 3rd Party paid software if wanna password protect it

Did not mention how much GB that past is. Eitherway , best is to copy to sd card, buy a locket with pocket and wear.

However, when past is not bad or no longer required, better eradicate for bright futures.

Edit:

Still wanted use dual boot and load any nix verion os and hide it there. Windows hidden folders can break anytime.

Small sized good brand pendrive with bitlocker (inbuilt in windows os) is enough to hide confidential data.

Create a second user with office/work kinda word,  make it admin.

Change your current user to standard user.

Thn disallow any file or folder from properties to standard users.

If she isn't that much technically sound, it will work.

Best option would be to use VeraCrypt.

Depending upon total size of your data, create a password protected encrypted container of that size in VeraCrypt, put all your confidentoal data in it and encrypt it. It's straight forward process, try it.

But do remember the password! , because if you forget it, there is no way to recover data.

"So kindly suggest to me any simple folder lock that can also hide files within windows and wont visible without password."

So you just want to lock it, password protect it. Create a partition(drive) with enough space for your "data" and activate bitlocker(available right in the windows explorer). Set a password, you will be the only one that can access it.

But this is like painting a target red. The drive will be visible, your wife won't be able to access it but she can see you password protected something. If you OK with that go ahead do it.
