How to reduce hotspot speed android

Hi,
Sometime friends asks to use hotspot and we can't say no to them and within a minute they consumed all our daily data quota, so any way to reduce hotspot speed in android ?

If rooted there's an easy solution. Otherwise in some stock ROMs there's an option to limit speeds but I have never tried it so unsure if it works or not.
Edit: If the ROM includes the option to 'share VPN over hotspot" (available in full featured custom ROMs but not in minimal ones like LineageOS or stock ROMs like MIUI, again can be enabled with root) then there's a possibility that download speeds can be limited even if root isn't available.Β

Or better still, if one a spare device you can put a BSNL SIM, then create hotspot with thatπ .
Other way to irritate them is to say that some antenna or other issue in phone, so instead of hotspot
use 'bluetooth tethering'.
Keep taking calls, move far from their device or somehow ensure that bluetooth connection is choppy.
The above requires kernel level changes. The feature is available in A13 based MIUI but doesn't seem to work. Didn't work in a device running AOSP based custom ROM as well but doesn't matter since root is available. Maybe it only works in devices that were launched with A13+.Β

Just use Vodafone Sim
Check hotspot settings for it.
As far as I know limiting number of connections connected to hotspot is possible.
Also in samsung you can set data limit and time limit (after device get connected), it will automatically get restrict data when limit get reached.
